As someone who actually likes Final Fantasy 5 unironically, I suggest buying the GameBoy Advance version. It has nicer graphics and has a much funnier translation which feels like a Saban script with more restraint.

"In my kingdom, bad jokes get punished!"

Why would they not reuse the GBA script? It was perfection.

Has there been confirmation on a new localization? I can't find anything myself. I hoped they would use a version where Faris doesn't speak like a pirate.

I have no idea what's going on with SE. Apart from its audio issues, the GBA version was perferct.

(And I see they STILL didn't fix the font problem!)

Okay, thank you for these. Because I want to play FFV soon. I haven't played it ever and I was debating which is better.

I haven't played anything before FFVII, and I feel like I'm missing out. Lol, I did read that from I to VI, V and VI are the best two to play so... Smile

Joke translations are for ROM hackers. When people pay for a translation, they expect a translated version of the original Japanese script. In my humble view, it seems pathetic to expect that the worthiness and the value of an entire game is determined whether certain characters say certain lines based upon regional releases. If this is what it takes to sell old-school Final Fantasy nowadays, then I really don't know what people honestly expect from the franchise entirely.

That is very true, but its always a good idea to have a brouder outlook and to have your eyes open to the possiblity of "what version should I play" because not every single modern and newest port of a video game series is the "Best" in alot of people's eyes. Take Lunar for example. Still to this day people actually get introduced to lunar series through the Lunar Harmony game on the psp over the Silver star story on the PS1. I will say from experience in both, that Lunar Silver star story is FAR more polished in mechanics, design, and even script. Over world, more challenging dungeons, more anime FMVS, better 90's classic voice acting, more witty, humerous dialogue that ooses more personality out of the characters, Bosses are not actually easy, they requite challenge and many many other things. I have not played the Pixel remasters so i can't really compare but as a HUGE fan of Final fantasy, i know that various ports and remasters have changed quite significantly over time. So its always good to know what your missing generally what the fandom seeks as the best over all experience.

The FF VI snes, altough charming for its era with some good one liners that we remember growing up, new fans may not consider ted woosley's script the ideal experience due to the fact that he changed alot of the japanese original dialogue and represented the characters differently and also cut down a huge ammount of script because of the limitations of the hardware so the GBA version in that respect may be the more better solution for most fans.

For all the complaints about Ted Woolsey translations, they were never as bad as Working Designs. Ted Woolsey never put in real-world American pop-culture jokes like Working Designs did with Lunar. Jokes about Bill Clinton, Spinal Tap, Tootsie Rolls, and other things that made it a truly joke script.

I'm not familiar with the American script of FF5, but surely it can't be on Working Designs level with Lunar. I would agree most people these days would prefer a serious, straight localization. Especially if it's for a version being labeled as the definitive version
