Yeah, and they have Akira in HD. I wonder what new titles are going to be offered through this service seeing as how most of the titles were available via Itunes. |

Honestly it really is, Xbox Live Marketplace has really done a great job building this community feel. That basically the best things Microsoft has done with there year head start on Sony and Wii. With Sony Home coming out I expect Marketplace to really kick into high gear in the future, also did anyone see that awesome Pac-man animation that was one Xbox live a month or two ago? It was awesome. and it's exactly what should be put marketplace shows that aren't widely available or don't have DVD releases. |

This is absolutely awesome! As someone who's very much wrapped up in gaming this is great news. This is just one more reason why to get an Xbox 360 if you were already considering purchasing one.
Even though I plan on getting the full series on DVD I wish Fullmetal Alchemist made it on the Xbox Live Marketplace as well but no matter since numerous anime being launched I have yet to see. This will prove beneficial for many like myself. I also think this is a better fit for anime rather than through iTunes for reasons that can easily be pointed out such as the fact you can view titles like Akira in HD and simply because it's on a larger screen than that of an iPod. I hope more publishers bring anime over to the Marketplace in the near future. |

The iTunes Store purchases aren't limited to iPods. They support playback on several devices with analog and digital video output such as Apple TV, Macs, and Windows boxes (and TVs connected to those devices or to iPods). On the other hand, digital video output is only available on the Xbox 360 via the $480 Elite package (HDMI only, no DVI). Also, once bought, an Xbox Live Marketplace item is stranded in one box—there's no legal way to bring it to a different kind of device or even to another Xbox 360. |

The point you make about iTunes is true however I'd rather the more simpler apporoach.
The only issue you brought up that I think will be a problem is that you need an Elite at least for HD viewing. I think that the Elite will eventually become the new Pro while the Pro will replace the Core as it slowly phases out. At least I hope that's the case. That way it will make everything a lot better as a whole. |

Technically it's part of your hard drive which can disconnect from your Xbox and therefore be moved. Also you can transfer your files from your 20 GB hard drive to a larger Hard drive legally. If you buy a larger hard drive Microsoft gives you a transfer kit that allows you to move all your data over. It's a shame that you can't transfer your files to your Zune/Creative/Ipod it's particularly one of reason why I don't have all that much on my 360. |

You can still get HD with component and DVI. Additionally, none of Live's video offerings are in 1080i/p anyway, so the HDMI connection won't help too much there. Hopefully Sony will one-up them on that when they roll out their service

Yeah, I'm aware of that.
I honestly could care less for what Sony has planned, Home is intriguing but it doesn't look like something I'd take part in and I'm noy buying a PS3 anyways. I'll eventually get a 360 and for the time being I'll enjoy my DS and Wii.

"Simpler," if 160 Microsoft Points = $19.99 means simpler.  Very few people would call the Xbox Live Marketplace approach simple.

I agree with the owning a hard copy here. I seem to notice more macro blocking on broadcasr and downloaded movies and trailers, as well as a general overall drop in quality compared to HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. I haven't downloaded much over the years, but checked out the Transformers full HD trailer at the PS3 shop (due to the thread here) and was really disappointed by the quality compared to most HD disc sources. It's only a matter of time until anime titles (next month for the States) become available on HD disc formats. Flag was just announced for Blu-Ray in Japan!

Sadly, it's a one-way trip. "Any data stored on the 20 GB hard disk will be automatically deleted after it is moved over." We're still stuck with one Xbox at a time. http://forums.xbox.com/11244107/ShowPost.aspx
That's the biggie. No portable media player support or personal computer support. |
