The new art work is jarring from the season 1! I wish they had kept the first season style. I am sure this was done to save money while in production.

Honestly I think it's just more of what 3 Hz are used to drawing than anything else

That mostly and I also wish people would quit on this "budget" nonsense 4chan has mind-poisoned literally the whole community with. They never will though, the rot has been spread too far.

I think I can get use to the character graphic style except for the Devil King! He now looks like he just starting high school!

That's one of the things I liked about him was that he look like he was just out high school not just starting.

That's not how things work. A lot of thought goes into any art style, it's a deliberate choice by the character designer which was approved and discussed with other staff members and has nothing to do with "saving money". A more detailed art style wouldn't cost more. That's just a popular misconception.

Agreed that Maou looks too young, but otherwise I find these designs to be a slight improvement, especially for Emi. Alas Ramus certainly looks suitably adorable.

Obviously this will cover volume 3, so the question is whether the adaptation will maintain its 1 volume = 6-7 episodes pace with a new director. Although it's been a while since I read the early volumes, I don't recall there being another good story break point for a long while after volume 3.

Considering the fact that this is coming out 9 years after season 1, I'd figure that it'd look different

I think volume 4 would be a good cut off it, as it feels like the ending of this first part of the story before volume 5 happens and sets up the next part of the story. And volume 5 would proboly be a bit too much of a cliffhanger to end on if this never gets another season, becasue of the events that transpire towards that volumes end. This is only based on if its another 12-13 episode season though, if its longer then anything could happen.

I am also a little worried about the new look, but I want to remain optimistic that things will turn out well.

Summer 2022, PERFECT! Im only one book away from the ending (following the official English release of the books), so I would have finish the light novels by then.

For me the last minute change of main studio is the bigger concern. Its rare that ends with a good production schedule.

Agree about the visual changes, but I'm easily willing to get past that just to get a 2nd season after so long. I'll have to do a rewatch before the premier, so it'll probably be even more jarring, but it is what it is.

Oh wow, hearing the first season's opening theme at the end of the preview was a total nostalgia bomb. Not a fan of the new designs but I can deal with it for some fun hijinks.
