Just a note but I think it might be better to use the term Joseimuke instead of "otome" to describe Twisted Wonderland. The term otome game describes games for a female demographic which contains actual romance between the MC and the love interests. Twisted Wonderland doesn't have any romance so the more general term Joseimuke (which encompasses "hot dude collecting games without romance" games, BL games, and otome games) doesn't give any wrong expectations. The term otome is more well known but making Japanese terms more general when there are more fitting terms feels wrong.

The English version of A3 used the term otome and doing so made quite a few people annoyed since it has no romance and people felt baited. Twisted Wonderland already had so many English articles describing it with words that don't fit. I hope no one get's disappointed playing it due to false advertising.

I do know that there are a lot of very specific terms in the Japanese female-oriented gaming space, but by and large, “Otome” is the one most people know. To most English speakers, if I say “Otome” they’re immediately going to know who the game is targeted to and if they’re even remotely interested or not. This isn’t a deep dive into the game, just a very surface-level intro, and going at length into the difference between all these terms isn’t really part of that. If anything I said caught peoples’ interest, they undoubtedly know how to use the Internet to do research and learn more in-depth detail about the game and what to expect, since the JP version has been out for a while now and is well documented.

From what I remember, the conflict with A3 being marketed as an otome game had less to do with misleading people and people being disappointed and more to do with the fact that the protagonist is an adult woman and several of the characters are underaged. Not sure what the case is in Twisted

In Twst, the MC is a gender neutral student, but one of the characters mentions that Night Ravens College is an all male school.

Edit: I also disagree with continuing to use the word otome because most people automatically think romance and that's just not what this game is about. This is potentially leading people to believe that it is and may not check it out. While you're not doing an in depth look at the game, I still think it's not right to use the word otome incorrectly. Just say that it's a game marketed towards women or something like that.

Whenever I see the word "otome" attached to a game, I automatically make two assumptions:
- the main character is a young woman
- it's primarily a story-driven romance game

Perhaps "bishounen game" might be a better descriptor in this case? As for Shiawase_Rina's suggestion, I've never heard of the term Joseimuke before (and I suspect I'm not alone), but that could be another option, since it seems to be a growing genre in terms of what's getting translated.

Yes and Otome is known for female lead and romance. If this game doesn't have that then saying Otome here is VERY misleading. If I was into the Otome genre or looking for something Otome to play/watch and someone said this was otome but i found out it actually isn't then I would've been mad and disappointed. Likewise those who hate Otomes read u saying Otome and they'd stay away from it when its not actually an Otome game. There is a reason why we label things with genres/tags and u should stick to using proper labels or don't bother using labels at all... I mean no disrespect when is ay that btw and it was a nice article u wrote, but labels are important ya know, its there to help us know whats in what we consume, whether thats for food or for media both are very important.

because the kof15 leaks have yet to be wrong, and, more importantly, the leaks guesses k9999 and we got khronen, we are pretty sure what the rest of the cast is, including dlc.

I was going to bring this up too; thank goodness I'm not the only one.

"Otome" usually indicates a game aimed at women where you romance a character. However, many mobile games aimed at women are more "josei-muke", meaning "aimed at women." Just like there are many women who ship themselves with a character (yumejoshi), there's a large number of people who play this game who actually ship the male characters themselves (fujoshi) and that doesn't necessarily mean they're into otome games or self-shipping.

The Astro City Mini V looks great. It's a bit expensive though (especially compared to the previous Astro Mini), so I hope it will be produced enough to be available at a discount on amazon japan like the original is. So far it seems to be sold out =/

I remember being at that day 0 event at Gameworks that was highlighted by Beck and attendees Shaggy and Bill Gates with Melinda. Went to the public opening the day after. I never rode the tower game when it was there. The only place left in Seattle are the Pinball museum or Shorty's. A Dave and Busters was recently opened in Bellevue and a Round 1 in Southcenter.
