I wasted little time between when I purchased this volume and when I watched it.(Thanks Best Buy for putting it on the shelf early
 ). What can I say that Key hasn't already said? I totally love how they use real historical figures in the story in a way that, barring spoiler[the zombies and the magical poets], is really believable.
The animation and background visuals are beautiful. This is definitely one of ADV's best dubs. I especially like Hilary Haag's performance as the skull. Very creepy  .
One thing to note is ADR Director Steven Foster's colorful commentary. He drops a lot of F-bombs among other things that still seem to catch me off guard everytime I hear him. They are drinking wine while recording the commentary, so maybe that is a factor. |

Here's always using adult language it seems when he's being interview or doing a commentary track/ADR journal. It's kind of like his thing, although he mostly known for changing the English version of show that are more comedy based, by adding funnier jokes. Although his work on the more serious tough has been pretty top notch, Le Chevalier D'eon and GIlgamesh were both very good dubs. |

Yes, I just love this series. Easily my favorite release this year. You're right, it's very believable, save for all the supernatural stuff. But, then again all the unrealistic stuff is what makes this series so intriguing to me. Not to mention it's got a great plot going. One thing I really love about this series is how I get so caught up in it, that the episodes/volumes seem to go by very quickly. It makes it seem like much less than roughly 100 minutes has passed once it's all said and done.
Yes, I agree. I love the designs, the costumes, the backgrounds, not to mention the swordplay. All great. The music is also nice. I really like the OP and the background music fits in quite nicely. As for the dub, it's a great one. It's well cast and the performances are top notch. I think I said before after watching volume 1 that I didn't recognize many of the voices in the dub, which is something that made it great for me. I've now seen a ton of ADV dubs, so the voices are much more recognizable. But, ADV isn't using a lot of their heavy hitters as the main cast (more for side characters and guest appearances) which counters the voices being recognizable. I have to agree with you in regards to Hilary Haag's performance. I really like her voice (thanks to her performances as Tessa in the three Full Metal Panic series) so it is a bit distracting to hear her. Still, she does a great job at making it sound creepy. |

The acting to Le Chevalier D'Eon is pretty good but I don't like how their French isn't well. I'm going to add this series to my wishlist since my birthday is comming up
. I wonder what the French dub to this series would be like.

I also enjoy the super-natural aspects of the story(I didn't mean to allude otherwise  ). They certainly add a lot of excitement and suspense.
I also like how ADV has employed several of the "lesser known" voice talent. They are all giving outstanding performances and I would hope that in light of said performances, more opportunities to be cast in more important roles in the future will open up to them. They are certainly deserving. Of special note: Brittney Karbowski is one of my favorite up-and-coming voice actors. She's a very nice person too

One volume every two months is standard normally for US release. Some releases have been one a month and there have been other accelerated releases. But they didn't work, although I will admit ADV did a great job with getting this series onto DVD very quickly in the US. And they should have the sixth volume out sometime (barring any delays) in December so that's quite impressive considering the series started airing (in Japan) at the end of 06. |

Regrettably I can't comment too much on Le Chevalier d'Eon; I never checked out the fansubs, and I'm shamelessly waiting for the thinpack...so that I can get the singles and artbox at clearance prices. |

Don't wait, Seriously buy the singles, the Commentary tracks are well worth it considering your probably not going to hear them on the thinpack. |

Basically the dub version of Voices is worthless. It just doesn't capture the same feelings (which is what the entire movie is about) as the sub, which is sad and I don't know if its a VA/ADR thing or just that it didn't translate well but that movie is sub only for me. I can't comment on Ghost stories or Generator Gawl but I actually did like the Cromartie High dub (along with sub as well) I just think that was really well done and had really great timing, which what comedy is all about perfect timing on your execution of the joke.
Commentary tracks are alright but the real meat of the individual releases are the very nice artbooks/historical notes and the beautiful slipcovers. |

You will get extremely mixed reactions on this one depending on who you talk to, though. I know a lot of people claim that they hate the dub on Voices, but I honestly don't understand why. I found the English dub to be plenty good enough to evoke the tone and emotions portrayed in Voices; in fact, after watching it both way I felt it had slightly more of an emotional impact in English. The script changes people complain about aren't that substantial, either - and I've done a word-for-word comparison between the two versions. There's maybe one place in the whole thing where a translation adjustment even slightly changes the tone of a scene. The only legitimate complaint I can see is that the English dub version, for some reason, does not translate the crucial on-screen text if you use the "Settings" option. (Works fine if you turn the subtitles on independently via the remote, however.) You'll get less argument from me on TUYBW, however. That one did have some issues. |

This is yet another recent ADV release where I'm amazed at how good the transfer looks. Part of my problems stem from many newer releases having really poor dark regions that are filled with macroblocking and blacks tending to consists of splotchy dark blues and reds. D'Eon really doesn't have much that falls into the really dark range which might be part of the reason why it looks so good, but the darker parts of the screen seem to appear as fairly solid colors. This year is continuing to look really good for ADV who had a lackluster 2006.
I hope to see more slipcover and booklet editions from ADV this year. |

Randall, one of these days you're going to have to explain to me how you're seeing all this technical stuff about transfer quality and macroblocking, etc. that I never notice despite using an HD-caliber TV.
