At this point I bet it'll just be more Buckingham and spoiler[Buckingham/Richard] stuff. :/ I used to love this manga so much, but Kanno has kind of swallowed her own pill re: Buckingham, and derailed it into such a straightforward Harlequin romance with all the obnoxious tropes, and lost completely sight of what made the manga so great to begin with, that I lost hope of her being able to return to the manga's former greatness.

Sigh, I just hope the anime won't rush through the first arc of the manga and I can enjoy the first cour as much as I can...

The first arc of the manga, the first ten or so volumes, are fantastic - I definitely recommend reading that part. It's the arc that is very very loosely based on Henry VI I-II except with Richard (the future Richard III) as the central figure. For one there's the good old classical shoujo style melodrama (and I say this in the best possible sense - all the dramatic, heightened depictions, over the top emotions, characters, etc) the art is striking, the characters are engrossing if not particularly loveable (most everyone is messed up and is terrible in one way or another), the story/arc/character progress is great, the conclusion is almost catharctic; and I love the way it infuses its own story with Shakespeare. I don't know about the English translation but in Japanese it's really fun how Kanno keeps using Shakespeare's text in her dialogue, it's an aspect I enjoyed a lot.

Just don't get too attached because a few volumes into the second arc (that is supposed to cover Richard III) it suddenly takes a sharp left turn into wtf-ville and turns into the worst kind of shoujo romance melodrama, with all the obnoxious tropes from "rape leads to romance" to "controlling and jealous boyfriends are sexy and romantic" and so on presented in all seriousness. It also basically stops having anything to do with Shakespeare other than some inevitable plot points... and so on. To me it reads like a completely different manga, one that I would never have picked up in the first place. I hate to say but to me this manga ended up being a huge disappointment.

Then again, the aforementioned controlling and jealous boyfriend has just won the character popularity poll, and the romance seems to be hugely popular, so. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ If you're into that sort of thing you may just enjoy it.
