As someone who is usually all in on SoL/CGDCT/Hobby anime, this one has felt strangely... dissonant? I almost feels like I'm watching 3 anime mashed together. The Cute bits, the fishing information bits, and the serious "getting over loss" bits don't really flow together all that well in my opinion.

I'm gonna still give it a shot, and maybe it's just me, but even as someone who likes more serious subjects interjected into SoL (Sound of the Sky for example has some similar episodes about trauma) I don't know if this one is gonna land for me.

I picked this up out of curiosity and it's turning out to be one of the top shows on my viewing list this season.

It may be a bit of a mashup of CGDCT, SOL, HOBBIES & GRIEF but I kind of like it.

It may not be Yuru camp good but in a season of much averageness I'll take anything that compels me to want to watch the next episode.

It even has a touch of subtle yuri-bait (if you're into that sort of thing).

It's a decent show but I kinda wish it had more than just dead dad + fishing. It's just awkward how every single scene end up being about those two topics, like spending time with someone who always bring up the exact same topics in conversations after conversations.

This show is so cozy and heartfelt. I'm glad I picked this up.

I hope the show stays platonic, since iyashikei and rom-com are mostly exclusive. Save this season's yuri for Akebi's Sailor Uniform please. Step-sibling romance would also be a bit weird in an Eromanga Sensei way (although when two step-siblings from my rather small high school class started dating and later got married it did not bother me).

I knew I was going to love Slow Loop since the end of Episode 1 where Hiyori narrates:

A new uniform, a new school building...

...and a new...

accompanied by entirely appropriate music.

Episode 4 - Still maintaining same quality as Episodes 1 to 3, even though new characters are introduced.

Any Kirara adaptation would be on my watchlist. But honestly, so far I don't find it as engrossing as my previous cgdct experience. I suppose some discussion on family and grief makes it a bit less lighter for comfort viewing usually offered by cgdct shows.

I think it could still work, but I think it needs at least one more girl with more energetic personality (but in a different kind from Koharu) to liven up the dynamic. And in an inevitable comparison, I quite enjoyed Natsumi and Hina dynamic in Breakwater anime. Rin and Nadeshiko have similar personality trope to Koharu and Hiyori, but Nadeshiko also has her club mates with more lively personalities.

Also I won't mind if the show shows more beautiful fishing spots. The artworks of the manga seems to show some potentially beautiful sceneries.

Ichika Fukumoto has an energetic personality, and the preview for Episode 5 promises we will see more of her little sister Futaba and Futaba's friend Aiko Ninomiya.

I like it but it hasn't risen to the level of love it. I'm starting to enjoy hobby anime alot more. it took me a while to finish super cub, but I enjoyed it. the best hobby anime for me so far has been laid back camp.

If this anime can teach a bunch more about fishing I'll def be into it more

Take a look at https://myanimelist.net/anime/39730/Houkago_Teibou_Nisshi for more about fishing.

Though playing karuta is more than a hobby to Chihaya, I suggest giving https://myanimelist.net/anime/10800/Chihayafuru a try. It falls in the category of stories about (non-video) games and follows the usual shounen plot of the protagonist trying to become stronger. Her goal is to be the top female karuta player in Japan.

I picked it up thinking it would be another mindless "Girls are Fishing" and doing cute things like last years "Diary of our Days at the Breakwater" which was a just fine relaxing show.

Slow Loop has been so far much superior, because it is dealing with loss and recovery, while adding some nice relaxing fishing action to it. It is pretty apparent that the title refers to more than fishing, much as the anime is about more than fishing as well. It is about bonding, healing, and fishing. Real class act that I look forward to each week.

Check out Breakwater too, if you have time. It was decent, but not at this level.

8 episodes in and not a single duff one - this is so high on my viewing list this season....

The CGDCT and the emotional balance of this series is something else, it's not too self-indulgent with either to ruin it, the art is top notch (much food porn) and the background music is well matched.

I for one didn't think that two anime for a fishing SOL and a Girls school would be topping my viewing scores this season.
