Why is Fruits Basket final season not one of the nominess for anime of the year? It's literally one of the top anime of all time on anime lists

I can't wait for the day people stop conflating the protagonist with the hero and likewise the antagonist with the villain.

Lot of questionable decisions here. I dont know why JJK is eligible for AotY again when this isn't even an Attack on Titan The Final Season Part 1 or Part 2 situation, the show ran without breaks so it's still the same show.

Bunch of shows with anywhere from 5 up to 10 nominations, but other noteworthy shows like Re:Zero (and the one nominee they gave to Re0 didn't really make sense to anyone that'sseen the show), Vanitas, MT (I may not like the show but even I think it's strange how underrepresented it is) get completely shafted when they could've easily been represented in several categories. To say nothing about anime like WEG that almost everyone can agree utterly crapped the bed getting more love than it arguably deserves.

Multiple shows getting two nominees in the same category..

Naoko Yamada not being in the running for Best Director is flat-out disgraceful if I'm being blunt

I really want to be excited for events like this, but it's genuinely difficult when it's run like this.

At least Vivy got some deserve rep and Nai Nai gets a shot at best ending

Why is Wonder Egg Priority nominated in so many categories? Did the judges ignore the final episode?

Not a big fan of most of the nominations, tbh. The best anime with the most nominations is Oddtaxi, and I find it funny that it’s nominated for both best drama and best comedy.

It was nominated for other categories and the requirements are the same as the other categories.
Idk how they were choosing the nominations, but if it was based on popularity it should have 100% been on the nominations

WEP's nominations are all in fields like art, animation, voice work, and recognizing Ai as best girl. Neither of those categories would be affected by an inconclusive ending so I don't see any real issue on that front.

AniTrends represent the average anime fan better than Crunchyroll, I'll give it that. Crunchyroll's lists always feels like the more brand-friendly, critic pandering list rather than what's actually popular and being discussed.

Well, like most awards we have a whole lot of different levels of good, bad, and ugly here but I'm here to embrace the chaos!

The Good:
- For the most part, the nominees are solid and relatively varied, at least more so than some years past. An abundance of Ranking of Kings and Odd Taxi is well-deserved (and Boji & Odokawa for Best Boy too), but character and genre awards allow for some underdogs to shine too.
- Hey, NOMAD and Kageki Shoujo didn’t get completely snubbed! Didn't think they were popular enough to get anything besides maybe a genre nod.
- While I would have wanted to shake up the ENG VA nominees a bit so we didn't get actors who were already nominated for the same roles before + multiple actors from the same show, BOY am I glad we actually got some TX VAs in the nominee list, I was going to be annoyed if we went a third year in a row completely shutting them out for only LA actors. And the majority of the picks I saw were fair choices, even if I would have chosen a couple others here and there instead (like Casey Mongillo as Theo in 86).
- Recognizing International voice actors is also a nice touch for what's meant to be a more global celebration. And any awards that let me vote for Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo in the year 2022 automatically earns some points in my book haha
- While I'd normally complain about Fruits Basket's AOTY omission, I'd be lying if I said I expected it. I'm glad it got at least some love with its final season.

The Bad:
- Wonder Egg Priority’s Wakabayashi getting a Best Director nom sure is… an odd choice. Even with the highest highs in the show, the production completely crashed and burned by the end.
- SSSS.Dynazenon not being recognized for its outstanding character designs, would have easily chosen it over JJK or Vivy.
- How do you nominate Ranking of Kings for AOTY, but NOT Best Animation, its most obvious category? I know its a stacked category but it should have absolutely been there over the spliced up Demon Slayer film which shouldn't count (although considering how at least one of the judges tried to nominate Attack on Titan saying “its not bad animation, just different,” I guess I should be thankful)
- The repeat Genre nominees. I know its probably more likely due to CR not giving the judges too much guidance, but we didn’t need the overlap and I feel like these categories more than any others should be the most varied and serve essentially as recommendations for anyone looking for a certain type of show.
- Every year I have to remind myself that the OP/ED noms are for song only because there's always at least one baffling choice or omission. This year judges were cowards for not choosing Pretty Boy Detective Club's OP (even Komi-san, Vanitas, Horimiya, or Heike would have made a better nominee than one or two of these).

The Ugly:
- The complete shut-out of The Heike Story is ridiculous, especially for a list 100% dictated by a jury panel. If there’s any omission that actively annoys me, its this one. Not even for any production categories, DIRECTING, music, VA...
- Could have done without a repeat AOTY nomination for JJK personally - either relegate two-cour series to the year they finish or implement a rule disallowing a second nomination for the same season.
- Not ugly so much as baffling but I DIED reading that Eren is both nominated for Best Protagonist and Antagonist - you can't be both people, was there just zero communication there?! hahaha

Other than that, sure I might have some nitpicks here or there (like Sonny Boy being snubbed in OST), but that all seems to mostly come down to differences in preference/popularity.

If there's one pro the CR list has is including best English VAs instead of just Japanese.

Ehhhh I’m more interested in what shows CR has licensed and will announce during the show. Really want to see if those rumors of CR announcing Chainsaw Man at the Anime Awards is true…

The anime of the year nominees baffles me...
No Mushoku and no Vivy?
Plus how is Jutjusu Kaisen in anime of the year nomination when it was released last year? 2nd cour shouldn't count as its own thing..
Also Jutjusu Kaisen should not get 2 nominees in the best fight category, it just feels cheap and sort of cheating. Just pick one awesome fight from the series and give another anime that other spot. Anyway, this is going to be an absolute mess so whatever...
