Never heard of this manga before, sounds interesting, but I don't see any similarities between this manga's art and Nanashi's Nagatoro-san, tbh.

It's one of Kodansha's digital-"first" (which sometimes seems more like digital only) releases, which I think kept it off a lot of peoples' radar. It does have a live-action adaptation coming out soon, though, which may give it more visibility. And yeah, that wasn't my best example - I was more getting at the fact that the art seems more suited to a rom-com where simple art doesn't detract. Thinking about it, Tonari no Seki-kun would have been a much better comparison art-wise. |

Surprised and pleased to see this series get a review here. I Want to Hold Aono-kun so Badly I Could Die is one of my favorite ongoing manga and I never see anyone talk about it. I only discovered it because Tatsuki Fujimoto drew fan art of Aono-kun and that piqued my interest. I found it an incredibly affecting story about heavy topics like abuse, trauma, and self-loathing, but which is affirming about the importance of healthy relationships and self-love. The horror elements are very effective and pertinent to these themes, but it can also be quite funny and touching, and I really care about the characters. I know a lot more people would like this series if they just knew it existed. Being stuck in digital jail definitely limits its ability to grow an audience, and I'd snap up a physical release in a heartbeat if it ever got one. I've seriously considered ordering the Japanese volumes once the series ends just to have them on my shelves.
