It's nice to see it officially released in the West.

It is rediculous that they are focusing on these games before localizing the latest entries. I mean it's great to have these get localized but it'd be nice if we didn't have to wait years after the Japanese release to get the latest ones.

I feel the opposite; these tell important parts of the overall story, and given the interconnected nature of the series, I much prefer they localize the missing, earlier entries before pushing out more of the later ones

Sure but considering fan translations for these games already existed, the lengthy development time makes no sense.

I mostly agree with that for Zero, but wasn't really willing to play Ao without at least a Geofront-quality translation. And, even with the Geofront translation, legally playing those requires jumping through a lot of hoops to buy Japanese or Chinese language copies of the games (which can be both confusing and a bit discomfiting). Will make them much more accessible to a broader audience, I think (although probably still limited in reach by people not being super excited about graphics from an earlier era -- though, I personally prefer the sprites to Cold Steel's 3D look).

Given how much stronger I think the writing is in the older entries, I'm pretty happy we're getting these at all, nevermind so soon.

But Falcom definitely has a big problem w/ overseas localization. They really ought to either set up their own studio, or start using more than one other studio to localize all their games. Studios like NISA and XSEED simply aren't big enough to localize so many big games in anything approaching a timely manner... at this rate the PS6 will be out by the time their final PS4 title finally lands overseas.

Slept on this franchise too long, only started it recently with Trails of Cold Steel I (bought II-IV in the meantime, though haven't finished I yet)..

Love the design (imo better characters / dialogues than Persona, which I love too).., the character bonding in Trails must have inspired Fire Emblem 3H (love Fire Emblem, NGC & Wii versions where the best followed by the 1st two GBA versions), which FM3H doesn't do such a great job as Trails does
.. atm love Trails more than any Tales (BUT have not played the most recent Tales yet)

so hyped a new game and series has been announced, Very Happy

Also agree with this, although I've not played Ao yet. Cold Steel is still good, especially in world-building, but a lot of the individual character arcs & interactions got sort of pushed closer to being generic shounen archetypes (with the obligatory high school setting, no less, hah), and muted a fair bit of what made the earlier entries' leads so engaging.

Yeah, Cold Steel games are still good, but the earlier games are great. The main difference to me is that 1-5 tell character-driven stories, while the Cold Steel stuff is plot-driven... and the plot has never been a strong point of the series, and is especially weak in Erebonia.
