I want to get into this show as my dumb Akudama Drive replacement, but the art isn't clicking with me as much as AD. I'm not digging most of the character designs. But I am loving trying to explain how these people are running 1000s of meters in what seems like seconds. Reminds me of Hypnosis Mic.

So is the implication that the government went "Attention gang, it is now illegal for you to attack each others unless its during our new baseball game" and all the gang just went along with it?

Anyway its dumb fun for now, I'd like it if boring wasn't there but apparently having loser as main character is a requirement in shonen sports show, so dem the rules I guess.

though we get a cool new blue haired character that kind of fills Shun's place has Shun's face.

FTFY : )

I knew Shun was dead because the cat noticed and he got his falling star, Bebop style. That said, I'm also not convinced he's dead dead forever dedededead. Kazuki just looks like an ahoge-flipped and dyed Shun, so even though he's not voiced by Akira Ishida, there's clearly some connection deeper than just "they'd spoken before."

I also thought it was interesting how back at the formation of the team, Shun's attitude toward the game was word-for-word like Ojiro's. Was it solely Saori's influence, the whole team's, or something else that changed his outlook, like, I dunno, knowing he was dying.

Ojiro without his mask looks like Genos' evil brother.

Strangely enough I enjoyed these past two episodes far more than the previous ones. The Adachi guys were bringing just the kind of stupidity that I'd been hoping from the whole show - a bunch of poser biker yankees who are actually huge, stupid dorks. Alas, I guess now that their appearance is over with it's back to the show taking itself more seriously than it should.

After watching him interact more this week, I still get the feeling Kazuki is directly connected to Shun, and not just that they knew each other. Like it feels like this was how Shun was before whatever changed him changed him, and now Kazuki is going through the same process or something.

Funny how "swindler" got thrown in there. Smile

Well, these shows live or die by the charm of their main characters, and these characters are fairly lackluster. So far only the Adachi guys managed to make me interested, for being as funny as I hoped the rest would be...

I can't tell whether this show has a serious problem with same face or if it's significant that Shun, Kazuki and now Yajirobe all look like the same person or clones, except in slightly different color schemes.

it definitely raises a lot of suspicion about our blue-haired character (I'd wager he's behind the ending to episode 7, even if he denies it)

Yeah, he's suss as hell, but didn't the new fake-poverty tribe claim credit for it at the end?

So far I enjoyed the episodes where the characters don't play baseball in a similar way to how some Dragon Ball Super episodes get tiring the more they fight. Still, the h#rny content of this show does feel remiscent of Kodaka's most famous works. I mean the first case of Danganronpa 2 is solved by proving the killer's identity by using a pic of a nurse in an sexualized stance so there's the Kodaka mark. A shame cos I enjoyed some bits of the series.

I already dropped this series after episode 6 but one thing about it that was bugging me was how before the Adachi Tribe gets "killed", the story was apparently trying to endear us to their leader by...having him be casually sexist out of literally nowhere by calling Saori a "hag". Kinda hard to feel bad for what happens to them after that. Not to mention the one long tongued dude makes a rape threat in the episode where the Adachi Tribe is introduced, and then it's never addressed again. Like, I know it's a shonen trope to have the bad guys automatically become allies when they're defeated but there's just nothing particularly likeable about these guys.

At the end of the Adachi Tribe fight it was shown that their whole kidnapping bit was because they just wanted to play baseball with minato (I think?), and saori also seemed to know this, so I think we are to understand that all their tough guy misogynist posturing is super fake and minato implicitly understands this.

Baseball has overtime… right?

Straightfowardly called extra innings, but yeah. Since the advent of field lights, baseball games don't normally end in ties or sudden death. However rules vary internationally and non-professionally.

Then we have things like this nanshiki yakyū ballgame that lasted 50 innings over 4 days. Smile And both pitchers pitched complete games! But if it hadn't ended then, it could have only gone to 54 innings, after which they would've drawn lots to determine the winner.

Is it just me or do Funimation's streams for this show have a terrible sound mix? The music always sounds too loud and it often drowns out the characters' voices, as exemplified by the cut in episode 9 right after Taiga punches Fuchou. You can barely hear Taiga's voice under all that guitar-heavy music.

Come to think of it, the last time I saw this happen to a show, it was MIX, which was also about baseball and exclusively streamed by Funimation. Hopefully this Funimation baseball curse will end after its streaming service gets phased out.

Honestly I've been convinced for a bit that Kodaka is a one trick pony. I love the Danganronpa series but it feels like any attempts to operate outside of that formula - including Danganronpa 3 - just don't work.
