Haven't seen many people talk about this movie yet.

And I'm still waiting for any info on when will Crunchyroll bring this movie here, they confirmed they will stream it some time ago but nothing yet from them after that.

So when we see the characters after the finale do they appear spoiler[as themselves or the animals Odokawa sees them as?]

I feel like that would make a big difference to the film's presentation.

ANN tends to review movies as soon as they are out in Japan so there might be no Western release.

Yes, it's only shown in Japanese cinemas so far.

For me, the price of admission (plus travel clear to another prefecture—this was not a very wide release) was fully justified just for spoiler[Odokawa and Shirakawa's profoundly adorable climactic date, which naturally consists of a drive and a trip to the zoo. Shirakawa manages to get Odokawa to admit that he imagined her as an alpaca because he likes alpacas, which results in some truly glorious teasing. I'm very glad that their interactions work just as well in human form (everyone is in human form after the appropriate point) as they do in animal form.]

I do think that the film provides a little more meat than this review suggests; in addition to critical hints at the ending, there are even a few new mysteries introduced. However, it's completely accurate to say that you shouldn't go in expecting any "revelations"—just an interesting alternative presentation of an incredible well-written story.

I understand Crunchyroll has the rights to the Western release but I don't know what that means in terms of when we get it.

Crunchyroll should be streaming it later today / early tomorrow (time zone dependent). The last couple of films came out at around ~23:00 UTC onwards.

e: Looking at the previous 3 film releases they have all been 24:00 ~ 24:30 UTC although it could be earlier.

After watching the whole thing on CR (currently listed as the only episode of "season 2" and with no title... sigh), while I wouldn't call it completely pointless, I'd also say it's fine to just skip to the last 15-20 minutes and treat that as the 14th episode if you don't want to sit through a 2-hour movie. You won't miss anything too important.

It kinda felt like a director's commentary track, but with the characters commentating instead of the production crew. You could technically watch this movie instead of the series, but I wouldn't really recommend it; the series tells the story in a more complete and less detached manner. spoiler[The actual resolution to the series-end cliffhanger is pretty obtuse, appearing to leave it ambiguous before explaining what happened in a still-frame during the credits, which I guess is kinda fitting for this show.]
