Interestingly enough, that "Super-size me!" line was also in the fansubs by that group I'm not going to name. Could it be coincidence that the dub script used that?
On another note, I did introduce my sister to this series (who by the way hasn't seen any of the fansubs), and she was definitely entertained. And with that response, I figured I can look the other way about the episode order because making her entertained is enough satisfaction for me. |

Yeah the episode order thing has never been about the novelty or purity for me. It's just I have always felt the episodes after ep 7 will feel like filler episodes since the main story arc has ended. Apparently this is not the case so no big. Though I wonder if Theron say the show fansubbed before the review. I am very curious to see how people who never saw the fansubs will feel about the later episodes, Especially the last episode.

I doubt it. I also noticed a few other similarities between the fansub and the official subtitles/dub. I noticed they used the same exact (and imo, extremely inaccurate) translation of "Moe = Turn on". It's too much of a coincidence, I'm 99% sure they took these from the fansubs. Judging by the way they've been treating this whole release though, it seems like more of a homage to the fansubs rather than "stealing work". |

Ugh. The fansub group that shall not be named really bugs me with their "localizing" of Japanese terms. I mean, the official release did good with actually saying "moe". THAT fansub group is also the only good group doing Lucky Star, so I have to put up with their extreme localizations in that too, which is ridiculous because it's such an otaku-centric show in the first place, and it'll attract next to no new anime fans. In any case, my volume one is still in pre-order limbo at right stuf (because of the second Kino no Tabi novel...grrr) and the second volume is preordered for me for pickup at my local con at the end of the month. It's a long wait, but I can manage. |

And yet they continue using "future man/men" in the subtitles rather than the less literal but more accurate "time traveler". Anyway, the dub continues to be fairly strong. I really underestimated Wendee Lee's talents before, but she's really gotten into the groove of the character. Perhaps her performance isn't as strong and natural as Aya Hirano's, but it's still very remarkable. However, the best performance is clearly Johnny Yong Bosch as Itsuki, who delivers that talk with Kyon in the taxi in a superb way. Stephanie Sheh continues to be somewhat grating and unnatural as Mikuru. Michelle Ruff is a decent Yuki, but not excellent. The supporting cast is mostly good, except perhaps Asakura which just didn't fit all that well. The Mahler piece in episode fourtee--- er, six really helps to make that scene. That whole episode is such a finale episode, it was strange watching it in chronlogical order, especially when I got to the baseball episode right after it. The next time I'll watch it via the broadcast order discs, though I hardly understand why they couldn't just slap the dub track on that anyway. If they allowed broadcast order at all, it doesn't make sense that they would only allow it in Japanese with subtitles. Anyway, between the regular DVD, the broadcast order DVD, and the CD, it was worth the purchase. The arm band, pencil board, and iron-on are just superflous extras, even if the arm band looks kind of nifty. |

More accurate? I dunno, for the original Japanese text was miraijin (未来人), not toki no tabibito (時空の旅人)*. *Also published and produced by Kadokawa... |

I just checked out the Japanese. version and your are right, it is technically accurate for the subtitles to use "future man" but it does make more sense in the dub to use "time traveller". Also I can't wait to see how the dub voice actor for Kyon, portrays his resentment for Itsuki in episodes 5 and 6.

I got mine from Rightstuf sometime last week. I love Crispin's interview when asked if he is an ESPer, time traveler or alien. The Nekoman sketches are also an interesting bonus gallery. I'm amazed that there is over half an hour of extras on the standard release. I was a bit skeptic about this series after the first DVD, but this second DVD has me hooked. |

I just got this from TRSI yesterday. Can't wait to experience these episodes yet again, only dubbed this time. The dub in this series is just great (based on the first volume). Yes, it doesn't quite match the original Japanese performances, but it's still top notch in my opinion. More than enough for me to enjoy the series even more in English, since I do prefer dubs.
As for the episode order, I agree with Theron. When I watched the series the second time fansubbed ((in chronological order), I liked it a whole lot better, as it made much more sense. It certainly was much less confusing than watching it in broadcast order the first time. |

Yes, it is miraijin, that's why I said it's more literal to say "future men". More accurately (in the context in which it is used), it's referring to time travelers. Thus my statement. "Future men" is ridiculous. The characters are clearly referring to time travelers. |

I just got mine today - in Australia. Love that 7-8 day transit!
(Amazon says I should get it in 5-9 more days...) Just wish they packed it a little better (Amazon packed the box in a bad way, leaving one side of it badly creased) When they inserted the speech over the silence after Tanguichi walks into the classroom, I was out for their blood. I LOVED that scene with utter quiet.... When they used "Super-size Me!", all was forgiven... I have actually watched the series a number of times, and at least one of them was chronological. Im finding it interesting to watch the series all over again, but this time in english. Of course, once I am finished with those, I will likely be loading up the broadcast-order disks for a watch of that.... |

Hm, THAT fansub group seemed to attract a lot of new anime fans with Meloncholy. Sometimes you've got to use localization to get a point across, since literal translations can sound rather clumsy at times (or too damn poetic sounding in some cases). Sorry to be the "Dumb American" here, but I like a little bit of interpretation to a huge cultural gap, like if someone were to read Shakespeare to me. And these damn limited boxsets are going to take up a lot of room on my shelf... Oh why am I such a sucker for these kind of things?! |

I got mine at AX this year and all I can say is ...wow. This is easily one of the year's best DVD releases to date. After episode 5 spoiler[ with the battle royale between Ryoko and Yuki] and episode 6 spoiler[ where Kyon and Haruhi are trapped in that nightmare world of her creation ] the show has clearly demonstrated its willingness to go from strength to strength so far. Lousy razzinfrazit Bandai making me wait until September to see more Haruhi...
