Final Fantasy XI is still going? Didn't it get replaced by XIV... after the rebooting of it.

It's still going strong, they're even still adding more story content to it. I imagine they decided to do a crossover event with it rather than XIV because this month marks XI's 20th anniversary.

Nay, it still running and playable after all this years, and currently it on it's 20th anniversary - so that is the reason for collab.

It's the anniversary of XI, so Square gone with it. Plus actually a lot of Cygames members are fans of 11 - they even putting dedicated livestream for collab this week, which is pretty uncommon despite how much collabs GBF has in the past.
