I was looking forward to hearing about this project again. Final Fantasy IX art style has a cartoony/anime look that I think it would translate well as an animated show. Don't know if they're aiming this for a young audience, the original game was rated T, I hope they don't tone it down too much.
There's also been some rumors about a remake of the original game, I don't know if it's going to be a remaster like the FFVIII or something like FFVII Remake. The original game still looks great, but the pre-rendered backgrounds in the digital version are very blurry, Square probably lost the original assets.

This seems way of left field.

The company, Cyber Group Studios, is known for making children's and family programming.
Their website lists their current titles: https://www.cybergroupstudios.com/programs/, which seems to aim at children between 3 and 10 years of age.

I'm not sure if this is supposed to be in line with their other programming or if this is supposed to be some breakout title, as I'm very skeptical at this point.

Also, I keep thinking about other animated series based on Final Fantasy properties, mainly Legend of the Crystals, based on and introduced as a sequel to Final Fantasy V. The releases for those were weird. The anime released in 1998 in the U.S., but the game wasn't officially released in the U.S. until 1999. I know this is a bit out there, but it does exist, though I know some that wish it didn't.

This seems like an ideal streaming show. Popular franchise, outsourced animation (vs asking the licensor to do it in-house I mean) and a story that is fairly respected as one of the good entries in the franchise.

HA! I would watch that too.

But honestly, I first played FFIX when I was 7 or so, and it made a huge impact on my life.
If this serves as a new entrance into the game while being respectful (No Teen Titans Go please), I think it’s a great idea, and I’m excited to see the result.
If it’s not good, well, at least we still have the game…
