Honestly wasn't expecting "Blue Lock" to be a Crunchyroll original; I've heard
some other news sources that the show would be classified as a Netflix original.

Well I'll be, if Crunchyroll getting the license to Chainsaw Man and outbidding Netflix last week was one thing, along with Sentai getting the 2022 Tokyo Mew Mew series, having Crunchyroll license Blue Lock just 4-5 months ahead of time is like knocking 3 birds with one stone.

Still, it does beg the question if Netflix is literally "done" with acquiring and licensing new anime moving forward and just seem to prioritize with their anime originals? Because if you compared to the previous years, Netflix hasn't licensed ANY new anime series from the Winter and Spring 2022 Season respectively and considering that Crunchyroll outbid and got the license to Chainsaw Man and now Blue Lock respectively and recently Sentai got the 2022 Tokyo Mew Mew series ahead of time before Netflix could get them, shows that Crunchyroll and Sentai had enough money to get those shows ASAP and to a degree Netflix seems to be more focused on developing their anime originals (e.g. Vampire in the Garden, Spriggan, Kotaro, etc.) instead of licensing certain shows regardless of Netflix having deep pockets.

Finally, it does make you wonder if Netflix is going to license actually Urusei Yatsura and Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury respectively? Because if those titles wound up getting licensed by Crunchyroll and/or Sentai ahead of time once again then this confirms that both Crunchyroll and Sentai had a higher paying bid and also that Netflix seems to be moving away from licensing new anime series this year and moving forward.
