Whether long-form or one-shot, everything Fujimoto creates is excellent and enthralling. <3

I was under the impression Fujimoto wrote this because a friend of his died in the KyoAni attack. Not sure I'd say the real world parallels aren't 'needed' since they're kinda fundamental to it.

Agreed, if anything those parallels made it resonate more strongly with me since it reminded me how many people must have felt in similar way. I feel we shouldn't chastise artist for using real tragedies, if they approach them honestly and with proper reverence to the subject.

That said, that is not the most important part of the story, rather the dealing with "what ifs" is, and I'm glad Fujimoto does those long oneshot stories, that are both long enough to develop the themes, while short enough to say what author wanted to say without unnecessary distractions or stalling.

Is Viz already sending out review copies of the book releasing in September? Or is this just a review of the one-shot as it’s been on the Shonen Jump app?

I wouldn't be surprised if they did, as that's a common practice with regular books. Don't know if they do it for manga, though.

They do, and yes, this review is based on an official review copy.
