I used to watch this anime as a kid but I never understood it well. Now that I see this article I keep being reminded of the 1985 movie Brazil but more comical. Why? I dunno. I didn't know Obari was the animator. Something kinda funny I realized is that my country censored part of the anime's opening when Tylor's butt is shown when recovering. I laughed a lot.

Um... is it just me or isn't it pretty obvious that Tylor as a character is strongly based on Legend of the Galactic Heroes' Yang Wen-Li? I mean all I could see was Yang in an alternate gag reality. The entire vibe of the series - space military themed - also looked like a parody of LotGH (even though I imagine that those kind of series were generally trending at the time).

You got me there, all I know about LOGH comes from old /m/ memes. The Soyokaze resembling a diesel-powered destroyer is more likely a callback to Space Battleship Yamato (since the Yamato also resembled a naval warship). |

I talk about this anime so much that when I type "The" into my phone the next word to pop up in the predictive text is "Irresponsible" and so on. This was one of the first three anime I ever collected along with Trigun and Ranma 1/2. I have bought this series on every format it's been released on in the US and in the future I plan to bring it to the podcast I co-host when it's my turn to pick the show. I'm also down to talk about the series with anyone. Tylor changed my life with his words when I was younger and I owe him so much. When I saw this article I was so surprised and to see that it was enjoyed imbues me with much happiness.
I hope that this article convinces everyone who reads it to at least try the series. You never know, it could change your life, too. May Tylor's luck be with you. Always. |

It's not just you, it's a common assessment among fans though I can't speak on behalf of the creator. Throw in some Harlock and Zen Buddhism and you have Justy Ueki Tylor. |

I found this by chance on sale once on Rightstuf and sad I didn't pull the trigger after reading this week in anime. I wished this was on RetroCrush. It looks like a more crazy oriented version of Nadisco with bits of the other stuff the people above me have said.

Tylor is and has been on YouTube for years on the official Nozomi Ent.(RightStuf's anime production division) channel if you want to see it for free. |

This is an all time favorite of mine. With the recent BD release, it was the 4th time I've bought the show and I don't regret a single purchase lol Though it would have been nice if the title on the spine of the collectors edition was facing the other way like nearly everything else on my shelf!

I keep learning new-to-me slang from TWIA (like "lucksack"), so I have to ask, is "shabboy" a portmanteau or a typo? Tylor was one of my early buys back in the day, and I was duly impressed with the disk cubes and little booklets that came with, all for an amazingly low price. I really enjoyed the series, except for the Christmas ep which had me seeing red. |

I suspect typo. And the Christmas ep is by far my favorite of the post-An Exceptional Episode OVAs. |

I might've liked that ep if she'd had the self-respect to go home after waiting half an hour (I'd have left after 15 min). She wouldn't even have had to be mad at him, since she's always known he's irresponsible. But then, there's a difference between being irresponsible and being inconsiderate, and he landed on the wrong side in that episode.

I only watched the show when the US BD release came out last year, and I generally had a good time, although I got increasingly annoyed with every female character falling head over heels for Tylor. As for the OVAs, I think the feature-length first one worked as a fittingly offbeat conclusion to the overall story, but the remaining ones felt pointless with the out-of-sequence storytelling and the fact that they never explained who the mysterious enemy was.

This show remains in my Top 10 Anime. It's just so damn entertaining and while I'm not sure what the general consensus is but I think the dub is great. I mean if you grew up watching the original Pokemon series you're going to recognize the majority of the voices. Plus, you have Crispin Freeman as Tylor.
