I already donated to this, but I know it's not going to be enough. I actually have plans to go to this con next month, but if it doesn't reach $100,000, I guess I may have to cancel those. I don't want Tekko to die. I have good memories of this little convention.

But as stated in the article attendance was down. It obvious they can't afford the bigger venue.

I'M GOING TOO!!! WE SHOULD MEET! 
.......if it's still happening, I mean. I'm kinda very worried about this whole ordeal. And I don't have enough money to donate either

Point still stands, convention spaces tend to go small, medium, or LARGE and if you're normally a medium but expect low attendance, you're still going to have WAY too many people for a small space. There are huge gaps in area sizes, and when you're in a smaller area it caps your potential. Which makes it harder to grow. So you can't afford a bigger space. So you stay in a smaller space. Which limits how many people can attend so you don't get enough money to get a bigger space the next year. And round and round it goes.
(And thats not getting into the fact that you have to book space WAY in advance, so you might be trying to secure a space for a 2023 con without having final numbers on how big your attendance will be in 2022.)

They already have contracts with the venue and vendors. They passed the point of no return long ago. Cons generally book venues with commitments of three to five years.
I hadn't been to Tekko and I'm supposed to go there to help my friend table for his con, Miryokucon (Baltimore in 2023, check us out). I had heard lots of good things about the con and, even though it's the weekend before Ota, kinda decided like "what the hell." I'll see what I can do to help. But trying to raise that amount of money in that short period of time, it's gonna be a lift. They're still more than $20,000 short of the drop-dead goal. I hope they can pull this out.

They need to make $60k for the event to happen this year. I assume that they had to pay a lot of convention center fees upfront since they probably failed to get enough attendance last year (a lot of things were announced last minute with the moved dates). Their registration system pays out AFTER the event.
I hope that they make their goal! They just need 400 people to donate $50 each or 1000 people to donate $20 each to make their $60k goal. Hopefully this article on ANN will help!

I have seen and helped cons that start small and have grown.While small cons do not make a lot of money they can make money and continue to expand.And the same can be said about medium sized cons.
But what has happened in the past three years starting in 2020 cons and business need to start to innovate,They might also need to downscale or reorganize. Some will die.
While i do admit i forgot about signing contracts ahead of time(my fault due to lack of sleep).So that is true.

Attendance was down largely due to COVID and the fact that the convention was held in December. It has always been in either late spring or early summer in previous years. Also, as others have pointed out, they had already contracted for the Lawrence Convention, so they don’t have much of a choice at this point. Even if they tried to reschedule at a different site, they would still owe the convention center a sizable chunk of change.

As a Tekko attendee, I can confirm that the con had no choice but to run in December, given their contract. And the fact they got moved to July was due to the David L. Lawerence Convention Center being booked all other dates in April.
