Well this is interesting. They changed the main character in the manga to a French Woman in this new adaptation.

It's not really that new. Remember Edge of Tomorrow starring Tom Cruise? It's based on the light novel, All You Need is Kill, where the main character is 20 something Japanese soldier while in the movie he's changed into an older American officer. Despite some changes, the movie was a hit.
