Bridget is trans.

You are free to not like it, or dislike how it was implemented. I myself have some qualms with it. But any way you slice it, she is trans and it was almost certainly an intentional choice, and no amount of "but akshullys" will change it. Time to accept it and move on, because I expect we'll get Ishiwatari's word soon anyway.

I know this is a lot to ask for some people but those people can get bent lmao

Guilty Gear Strive is nailing positive representation, but to be fair it nails just about everything so this was to be expected.

Dunno, if you think for a second and her backstory, you then realice that are some... implications with this decision.

Bridget was raised as a girl because reasons, this means that either it's the world's biggest coincidence or the plot its implying you can change a person's gender identity with the right education and environment which is, well, a conversion therapy.

It just feels... wrong to me.

Ok but you're leaving out a lot of context here. Most importantly, Bridget left the village where she had to be disguised as a girl ever since her birth and lived openly as a boy for several years, showing she was not converted by her upbringing. Something like 5 or 6 years pass between XX and Strive and it is only after that that she comes out as being a trans girl after all.

I don't know much about Guily Gear, so on the one hand I appreciate the intent and good for the character and fans, but on the other hand all those heartfelt ending conversations are quite severely undercut by her doing all those silly moves while talking. Anime smile + sweatdrop C'mon, why didn't they do a less silly animation at least for these scenes...

Personally I couldn't help but be a little suspicious when I first heard about it; Bridget's backstory is a little too close to the harmful "groomer" narrative transphobes push, plus as noted in the article it's made explicit only in a non-flawless ending... I mean if Bridget was a real person and not a videogame character w/ zero agency, I'd be happy for them being able to have pride in themselves regardless of whether it came about through nature or nurture, but as it is.... I suspect malicious representation.

You're ignoring literally everything that happened between before Guilty Gear XX and now. Bridget left her hometown, lived openly as a boy, became successful enough to return home and overturn the local superstition about twins, and then lived openly as a boy at home before leaving again in search of a new purpose. Bridget's new arcade mode dialogue shows her realizing that insisting on a male identity is really something she's doing for her family (who only ever saw her female presentation as a disguise to protect her from local superstition) rather than something she really wants.

The fact that people see a story about someone learning to accept who they really are and say "yeah, but that has nothing to do with being trans" just goes to show how they haven't actually interacted with trans people

You just described what I meant with the "Worlds biggest coincidence", if you are fine with this coincidence, well, that's perfectly fine, everybody has different levels of resistance to suspension of disbelief.

Pretty [expletive] wild to see like every other comment "already been reported". The brain-rot in here is unreal. Confused

It doesn't, though. That kind of story can be written for anything that a person is trying to hide. It could be heritage, identity, an "embarrassing" or non-conforming hobby or trait, etc.

Bridget's story is that he got groomed to save his life and now he's accepting his brainwashing after trying his hardest to fight it.

Where in the text of the game have you pulled this from?

You mean you don't groove like there's no one watching while having deep philosophical conversations about your core identity?

More seriously, I'm not a fan of fighting games, and all I knew of Bridget before this was the vintage meme that everyone was tossing around forums back in 2005 or so, but this is really cool.

According to new information, in the flawless ending she doesn't call herself a woman, which makes her ambiguous.

But personally I don't mind that, it would actually bother me if the game's translators had arbitrarily altered what it is like we've recently seen western translators doing.

"Character spends time living as a girl and then as a boy. After giving it some thought and talking to some people, she settles on which one she likes better." Wow. What a coincidence. Totally blows the kid Kliff adopted becoming Testament out of the water.

How? I watched through all the Japanese arcade scenes, and the translation is fine. People complaining act like this is just extrapolated from 「お嬢ちゃんでいいですよ」 and ignore the unambiguous 「ウチは…女の子ですから!」 that comes right after it.
Edit: Or are you talking about the "her bounty" in the English website description, which some confused people pointed to as a change, but which obviously refers to Dizzy?
