So basically a classic romcom where two best friends progress into something more when a new love interest enters the picture...

Is this another one of the quiet self insert loner boy x outgoing popular girl type of romcom? If that's the case then that's a huge shame, I'm really sick of them. I hope I was wrong because I really like the heroine design..

Lol, the blue-haired childhood friend is the main heroine? The author's had enough, I see.

You are really sick of a genre that has maybe 7 examples at most?
Uzaki-Chan Wants To Hang Out
Please Don't Bully Me Miss Nagatoro
Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki
My Dress-up Darling
Oregairu
Horimiya
3D Kanojo: Real Girl
And even there, not really. The first 2 are part of the "Teasing Master genre". Oregairu is a deconstructive parody of the 2000s high school romcom scene, a more wholesome Hagani. Real Girl (shoujo) is a high school Wotakoi (josei). Horimiya is as much about the female lead as the male one plus no one would call Izumi a fantasy character, even after he gets a girlfriend. So while they all have the "loner male meets popular girl" element they are entirely different shows from Bottom Tier Character and Sono Bisque Doll.
Even if there were an actual trend, no idea why you would consider this to be a part of it. Most (all?) of the self-insert fantasies pander to video game and anime otaku insecure about the social stigma that mainstream culture gives their hobbies. But the MC in this likes flowers, which is perfectly acceptable for males especially in Japan. Also, no evidence that he is an unpopular loner. He has a longtime best female friend, plus another another female friend. Mainstream hobby plus friends makes me think that he has a successful or at least within the range of normal social life.

Really love the blue-haired girl's design so I'll probably give it a go.
