"Sony Music Solutions Inc. is collaborating with Crunchyroll to both plan and support the program's operational needs." /sarcasm on/ Sony just made another, shall we say, 'little change' in how Crunchy works. Nothing to see here folks, move along, move along. /sarcasm off/ I never went to this Crunchy show - not my thing, I've never gone to any anime con, either - but what I heard was that, for a company self promotion thing, it was still a good show. Now, for people not in Japan, they will have to spend a lot more time and money. Seems a shame to me, but Sony maybe just does not care. Bummer if that is the case. |

I seem to remember a Japanese anime exec a few years ago pointing out that anime is first and foremost for Japanese audiences. Whether much of the industry agrees, it seems Sony/CR does...

I thought the voting is electronic. So from all over. (Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, please??)
I also thought this was part of Crunchyroll's Crunchy Con, and people going to that could maybe get in to see this. As an extra little bit of fun, not to be take too seriously, but still enjoyable if a person likes these. ( A side note, I don't know that there will be any change on the con.) I hope they let Crunchy keep having its con in North America. I know Crunchy's a world wide company, but I heard their US con was fun. |

Maybe not available in Japan via Crunchyroll but Japan does have various streaming services that might stream a number of those shows. |

I want to see at least 3 voting blocks, 1st- what Japanese voted, 2nd- What everyone else in the west voted for, 3rd- a combination of everyone.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this has nothing to do with "omg anime is for Japanese you silly westerners" and whatever people want to think... It's just that this way they can do a proper ceremony with industry guests/etc., without having to fly them to another country, especially with the covid restrictions and whatnot.

Japan already has numerous awards and popularity polls if people want to know how Japan feels about certain shows and trends. As mentioned, this is most likely just to make it easier to have Japanese guests attend and accept awards. We might also see some Anitubers who live in Japan like the Trash Taste guys pop up. I think Gigguk was involved with the Crunchyroll Awards back when he lived in America before he moved to Japan. |

There's about 10+ different streaming services which have anime excluding Disney+, Netflix and Hulu. You have docomoAnime (dAnime) which could be seen as the most popular, then you have Gyao, NicoAnime Softbank, ABEMA, vmarket, banvi and UNEXT which stream tons of anime. Then almost every major TV stations has some kind of streaming (FOD, HNK and ytv). Finally you have AT-X which is a paid subscription channel which only shows anime 24 hours a day. If anything Japan has a really great choice of services, which aren't as fragmented as you'd think. 90-95% of your seasonal shows will be on many of the platforms. I think NicoAnime basically gets absolutely everything with dAnime coming in at second. The most you'll get is a delay between the TV broadcast and the streaming. Sometimes it's a couple of hours, other times it's a couple of days. For anyone else who is interested, http://rankstker.net/ has some aggregated scores on seasonal anime from Japan and MAL. It's quite interesting to see some shows rise and fall. |
