I know it's a given, but surprised it takes this long to announce.

Of course it gets a sequel. I only wish they announced it sooner

Felt inevitable, but happy to see it officially confirmed all the same!

That's probably because it took this long for there to be enough source material to adapt for a second season.

I was hoping for a sequel. It is good to have confirmation. I hope it is another tv series. I like Gojo and Marin as characters and as a couple, but I need to see at least another season to like this franchise more.

Surprised to see it announced a week early before Aniplex Summer Stream, so we will probably get more details and maybe a pv for s2 over there.

I'm hoping a second season of Eromanga Sensei gets announced at that since Aniplex has the license to the series. Plus it's the 5th anniversary for the first season and the last volume of the LN just released. It would be good timing.

The nigh-universal and uncritical acclaim that this show receives baffles me. Were an artificial intelligence program created to generate the perfect young male otaku wish fulfillment SOL anime this is exactly what it would put out.

Now I don't have a problem with anime and manga catering to young male fantasies. My issue is that nearly everyone who has problems - and believes that media should confront, subvert and deconstruct such fantasies and trashes every OTHER ecchi, fanservice, harem etc. work as a result - absolutely loved this show. The same crowd who cheered "potato gets murdered early so the show can have with yuri and other relationships among the girls who would have his haremettes" like Talentless Nana and Executioner and Her Way of Life had Doll in their top 5 despite it being the same thing that Nana and Executioner subverts.

Season 1 of Rising of the Shield Hero caused a meltdown from the usual isekai critics over Malty's false attempted rape accusation. But when Inui threatens to make a very similar false accusation against Gojo to blackmail him into making a dress for her ... crickets from this same crowd. Despite its "Gojo gets to see a cute loli lying spread eagle on the floor" context: the very sort of ecchi slapstick that gets criticized elsewhere. At least Love Hina made no pretense with its "nude 13 year old Kaolla Su spread eagle" slapstick.

Sure, Gojo isn't a typical potato: he is proficient at an actual trade via natural inherited talent and years of apprentice work, is tall (5'11" at age 15 in Japan) and in-universe handsome. But that just makes his social isolation more improbable. Not one girl approached the handsome, quiet boy with good grades and polite demeanor? None of the guys tried to recruit the handsome guy for their "let's go meet girls" posse? (Or the tall guy for pick-up basketball?) Gojo should have had plenty of opportunities to learn that professional dollmaking is fine as a male career aspiration and that elementary schoolers like Nobara aren't the most reliable source of information on such matters. But such realistic scenarios would get in the way of Gojo's need to be rescued by a gorgeous exhibitionist manic pixie girl, right?

And MPD Marin totally is. Yes, she has her own goals, desires and interests apart from Gojo. It is just that those are all otaku interests that the audience has even if Gojo doesn't!
Good grief, an 80s work like Video Girl AI was better. Amano actually did subvert the MPD thing with her looks and behavior, and she also forced Youta to own his shortcomings in a way that Marin never does Gojo.

I just don't get why what is clearly an otaku fantasy in Dress Up Darling doesn't get skewered like all the other otaku fantasies do. Good grief, even Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki was despite its trying to use its otaku MC to get his surrogates to confront and fix their problems (and it's having almost nothing in the way of fanservice).
