Why would it be?

In any event, strike two...

Question:

Do you have to put CSS on this? If not, you could just skip the approval process and just sell these R's with no copy protection on it at all. Since it is pretty much a very niche low-price product the risk is pretty low. People who want it will most likely be buying this. Plus how much protection does CSS really offer? What is it like six lines of code to crack?

Yes, you do need SOMETHING on the disc. It's a legal CYA thing, and virtually no Japanese licensor will allow their product to be released without it these days. We wanted to go with CSS, since it's the least draconian of these practices, but we can't just keep delaying and delaying...

So we'll be replacing the CSS with another kind of copy protection for the time being until they can get the paperwork done. This other copy protection is used by major Hollywood studios, so there's no compatibility issues.

Oh well, that bites. Everyone needs to get away from these "copy protection" and other types of systems - they do nothing but hamper technology and sales and do absolutely nothing about the actual copying done out there. It's useless technology.

In the meantime, put out Cat's Eye already!

Man, I'm bummed. I was hoping to pick these up while visiting the states. Alas, at least I can DVR them on TV every day, but I'd love to have it on DVD.

Will these be region free? I assume not.

HTRO: I'm just guessing Sony's lobbying against it, cus they've been rather annoying regarding copyright protection lately.

IA's Justin Sevakis? Wasn't he our Justin Sevakis first, or rather ANN was his first Very Happy

Anyways, I will agree that all this copy protection paranoia is also giving me a headache. I've had a few HDCP problems resulting in occasional instances when HDMI handshaking issues occur. It seems it's only a matter of time until people hack copy protections and region codes anyways. This whole situation seems rather frustrating for everyone on all sides. I wish piracy wasn't so rampant resulting in these rather futile efforts.

So is everything on schedule now?

I ask only because it still shows "On Order From Manufacturer" not "Reserved For Your Order" and the 4th is like two days away.

It's coming, although we may miss a few orders by just a couple of days.

Oh great, thanks. I was worried another delay was coming. Not worried about a few days, just months.
