As a Brazillian myself.... this just hurts my head to look. I can say that politics in Brazil are specially awful, and this is an example of it.

As a brazilian myself I'll say that your friend is wrong. He is an offense to cancer, that's how bad he is. There are so many terrible things this guy has done and said but I will just give you something recent for you: he defended Hitler in a recent interview in a podcast.

You know, I never really thought much about politicians referencing anime and manga back when it was just coming from Japanese politicians, but now that politicians from across the world are doing it, I kinda wish they'd stop.

Even here you can find this type of fake news huh its impressive.
He at start defended the right to anyone to say or think whatever they thought, because many libertarians believe that the best way to kill a bad idea is to leave the population to judge it, no way in hell he defended Hitler and you're saying BS.
And he accepted it as a mistake and changed his mind after that, just to mention.
This is not a fight or anything its just to not leave a fake news to be spread here, our country doens't need any more help to be frowned upon the world.

I had a look at Kim Katagiri's commercials and let's be honest, they're weird. Creative yes,but also weird. You'd have thought they'd brought Gonzo the Great of the Muppets to Brazil to do these sort of commercials. For all the criticism of American politicians,I doubt that any of them would ever make these sort of commercials. Not if they want to be seen as serious candidates.
Their campaign would be over the minute something like what Kim Katagiri did hit the airwaves. No one would even try to take anyone who did a "Bleach" or "Love Is War" parody as a campaign commercial for them and they'd be relentlessly mocked in the media. While I give some points for creativity in Katagiri's commercials,I doubt he's going to be seen by anybody as a serious candidate. Nor does anyone who tries to do something like this, not if they want to be a target for comedians, political cartoonists and late night talk show hosts throughout their campaign.

^ He'll absolutely get re-elected. We've elected an actual clown (as in, a professional clown) whose slogan was "I don't know what a deputy does, and neither do you" to get votes. We're kinda bad at voting like that

He might not have defended Hitler openly, but he actually advocated for the creation of a legally recognized brazillian nazi party, and also criticized Germany for criminalizing nazism, clamining "anti-semites should have the right to be anti-semites". Him "changing his mind" later means nothing if he only did it because his popularity tanked.

Also "leaving the general population" to judge something has to be the dumbest idea I've ever heard (not a surprise coming from a libertarian), giving hate speech space to flourish is how you normalize it.

Edit: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-60317432
Also for context, trying to decriminalize nazism isn't as harmless as you might think, specially after something like this.

I think it's nice to see more anime fans attain political positions both in and outside of Japan. The more people in charge who are fans or aware of the medium can help prevent ignorant leaders from trying to censor things they don't understand.

Isn't the whole point of a democracy to let the people decide? The alternative is to submit to a fascist government that makes all your decisions for you. The less government interference and the more power being given to the people seems like a good thing overall.

Again you say disinformation, he didn't defend the creation of a party, it was the host of the Podcast that did it (someone who defends absolute freedom of expression).
And to highlight the deputy has a great proximity to the Jewish community.

This fuckhead is a member of an Atlas Network funded think tank. He was a firm supporter of Bolsonaro and he did say that he thought it was wrong of Germany to criminalize nazi parties.
He is anti-anti-racist, neoliberal and a stain on this earth. fudge him and fudge mbl. They'd sooner cozy up to fascist fucks than let workers have rights.

*edited Atlas institute to Atlas Network because Type-Moon colonized my brain.
