Just to add a little more context to the article, Steam has been on a bit of a tear lately banning Japanese Visual Novels from their service. Several high profile games have had their steam releases cancelled or altered as a result. This is just the most highest of the high profile. At first it seemed as if it was any content that could be viewed as explicit regarding high school students but its become apparent that its very arbritrary. The fact that all other Sci-Adv games have been released on steam except this one just adds to the arbritrary nature of this.

Valve hates anime and school uniforms more than Furry Hitler it seems.

Well... the Switch version is quite censored too. It uses the ps3 port as source, and it had some censored images, changes in descriptions and even deleted content.

Well... not exactly. Chaos;head is notorious for its graphic depiction of violence and quite gruesome scenes. Way way beyond other entries in the series.

As you mentioned, this is already a censored version not the ultra violent Xbox 360 release. As the game is already rated M by the ESRB for as is Steins Gate and Chaos Child, I feel my point still stands.Choas Child and Chaos Head Noah in particular share the same exact rating descriptor of

Also considering the other content on steam, I have a hard time imaging it was the violence that did the game in

Meanwhile, there is actual porn on Steam. But heaven forbid the game that will be sold in Walmart be on the service.

While I think it is lame for Steam to ban this game (and not provide a reason to do so), hopefully the publisher will consider GOG as an option.

Well, I wasn't interested in this game until now. But I just ordered it. From Target. Thanks, Barbara Streisand!

This is such garbage, imagine banning a game that's allowed on a Nintendo console. With all the other stuff on Steam they're not even trying to hide the fact that they have a thing against VNs

I was planning to buy this on steam, but now I've preordered it from GAME.co.uk instead. That's a £40 sale that Steam's lost from me. Now I just have to be able to prise my son's Nintendo Switch out of his grubby little hands so that I can play the damn thing.

Well, that sucks for anyone who wanted to play it on Steam.

At least they are exploring other options, so the PC version isn't completely canceled at this point. We just don't know when or where that release will happen.

It's probably closer to 4 than 40, and since the game's not coming out on Steam, they didn't really "lose" your sale. And unless your intent is to stop buying games from Steam in the long-term, I don't think they'll mind, either way.

A few anime or at least episodes and VNs or adjacent games failed to get 18+ certificates in the last few years here in Germany as the formerly lenient rating agencies finally woke up to how abusive toward minors and women some of these were. Teen-friendly ratings used to be the norm with fanservice releases. To an infamous degree even, where American rating agencies couldn´t believe how casually sexual content was treated over here. It still is but you can´t "normalize" rape and child abuse.

Chaos;Head Noah and Child on the other hand got a 16+ and will release on the Switch with bra & panties DLC so the content can´t be that far out. This can´t be an ESRB thing. These 2 blow btw as I tried them out on the Vita. Basically Videodrome for babies with some half-justifiable T&A (but no nudity).

Edit: Here is the game at Walmart. Yep. Harmless.

I see someone is easily offended.

American shows sexualizing teenagers(even if using adult actors) and little kids: Completely fine.

Some animation from the east: Problematic.

Might as well admit you are working for Valve.

Actually it'd be 12. The standard cut is 30%, something the Epic Games Store (hint hint, Japanese developers) is trying to change.
