But as I've put it before, no thing that I love is ever worth harm coming to other people.

Wouldn’t that also apply to Taylor’s boycott of Bayonetta the “role” she made famous?

Last I checked boycotts and protests aren’t necessarily harmless. Either to the people engaged in them or the people working for the organizations being boycotted.

I'll be watching them carefully—very carefully indeed, because we Boktai fans have been spurned by Konami much harder than words can describe. You guys at least got Silent Hill pachinkos, Boktai ain't got nothin'.

Try being a Ganbare Goemon fan that can’t read Japanese Razz

Resident Evil VII: Biohazard saved the Resident Evil series

It did? Like I know 6 left people with strong feelings and Operation RC and Umbrella Corps weren’t exactly #1 hits but I don’t really ever recall the series being in dire straits or in danger of being locked away in Capcom’s dungeon like Street Fighter was, Dragon’s Dogma was, Darkstalkers is, Megaman X is and Final Fight is.

There is also a valid concern about the game being a bit too edgy;

The original game has a random knife fight cutscene that’s also a QTE along with some brutal nonstandard game overs that involve Leon getting decapitated, vaporized, boiled in molten lava/steel etc.

The original game had edge.

The devs and studios got paid, is the difference.

Please don't comb through my articles to dispute individual points, it feels very pedantic and condescending.

I suppose I'll have to be the first to appreciate that TWIG now has a title card with anime Jean-Karlo playing GBA (is that the Boktai cartridge, even?) on the beach, on a (someone name that mech for me) with a certain legendarily unemployed Ninja. Well played.

I'm still just emotionally numb over all the recent Bayonetta news, so there's not much I feel like saying on that point.

NEO: TWEWY has a banger soundtrack (naturally) but suffered from a combination of Nomura syndrome and the modern JRPG problem of slapdash translation covered for by over-editing (things I'm unfortunately just bilingual enough to notice.) Still totally worth playing for the soundtrack, though.

The Silent Hill f trailer feels like a better Junji Ito adaptation than, well, any Junji Ito adaptation. I swear, that one shot (the arms!) was meant to invoke not only a trypophobia response, but also the underlying instinctual fear that science thinks causes it. The poor girl's face peeling off barely registered by that point.

The other Silent Hill news is... promising-ish? Basically everything post-4 has failed to register with anyone I talk to about the series, so not much to say about the new titles. Silent Hill 2, though? It was the second (and last) of the open-world horror SH games, so I'm hoping the remake remembers that and doesn't just put it on rails for convenience.

I still haven't even played Resident Evil VIII, though I've had it installed for a year now. Will OTS mode change that? Will I beat it before Jean-Karlo finishes Xenoblade 3...?

Not my intention just giving my two cents, I’ll leave that conduct up to a certain someone who frequents this and other threads doing that most of the time.

Thank you! I was so pleased with it! I was a little bummed nobody noticed it last week.

I wanted a title card for TWIG and I wanted one that matched up with the rest of ANN's look, so I made sure to ask for Catfish (who's also done all of the banners for our preview guides).

I didn't specifically ask to be playing Boktai but I noticed that the top of the cartridge is jutting out from the GBA, so it may well be! Other than Drill Dozer, I never played any of the other GBA games with weird cartridge shapes.

The ship is the Fire LEO-04 "Rynex" from Lightening Force. I didn't exactly grow up playing Lightening Force, but once I discovered it I was pretty obsessed. Easily my favorite shooter ever.

The Izuna cameo is one I'm very happy Catfish humored me with (it was a last-minute addition), but the rest of the details they did made me so happy. The SEGA font is on-point, the Shuckle is Shuckle, and most importantly: the Daytona USA seagulls.

Woof, what a week!
Is that a Rinne no Lagrange reference?

As for Neo: TWEWY. Hate to say this but, u'r likely gonna be waitin... all TWEWY fans will likely wait becus sadly, the game when it first released? Didn't sell well for what Square Enix was looking for... it literally under sold for what they expected. So yeah waiting is likely gonna happen and that's IF we ever get anything else in the series, much less a game. I bought the game day 1 but never finished it, imo, while the battes and new system are fun and work great, the story up to what i played was boring... spoiler[And I stopped on Day 7's start] which is a spoiler[find a player mission to clear Day 7 which was lame given what al we'd done in the prev days which was about the same, fetch quest type stuff is what I'd sum it up as...] least the OG TWEWY had a better story during spoiler[those same first 7 days] and spoiler[chars I could get behind, but not with Neo... Hopefully the story in Neo gets uch better becus am not really liking Neo's story thus far and its chars are ok but meh, disappointing thus far compared to the OG.]

And just to be clear so u can understand why i said that for any who read the spoilers, the OG cast in the OG gamespoiler['s first 7 days had more soul during thsoe 7 first days. We got to really KNOW and love Shiki, learn some about the other chars and even come to like Beat and Rhyme, despite not knowing everything about them. As the game went on we learned more about the others and even met new chars. (Though that is past the first 7 days of the OG game so not fair to really compare with Neo with where am at but the stuff i said on first 7 days for both games is true) mean while Neo just gives us the chars almost (The girl is the exception and u have to go outta ur way to progress the story and recruit her...) but NONE OF THEM we actually learn about. Like, we get what they like, we can see their personalities but we DON'T get to know how they died, what they're fighting for. Its all just one big game this time, unlike the OG game where u fought for survival and learned about the char's pasts and what they're fighting for and then some. Its possible Neo gets this later, or some twists or great story, but am just saying, the first 7 days of Neo (Least up to start of day 7 for Neo) are boring and a major let down compared to the OG game's first 7 days...] And the music... is largly recycled from the 1st game and most of the new tracks I heard, imo, r not that good...

Heard the localization for TWEWY NEO was censored. Unless they fixed it in the Steam release, not getting a dime from me. There's other ways to play it if one is so desperate to do so. But I can't financially support it in good conscience.

I feel trying to lump the Mario movie into the same category as the 'pay your voice actors more' situation makes no sense and just harms the movement and make it look like it's done in bad faith. The Hellena Taylor thing will hurt the movement more if it turns out she actually was lying, but people need to learn to pick their battles if they want a chance at being heard. The fact people don't mention Charlie Day taking Charles Martinet's role as Luigi at all and only focusing on Chris Pratt already makes it look bad enough. And the fact no one seems to care about Kenny James, Samantha Kelly, or Takashi Nagasako being ousted from their roles as Bowser, Peach, Toad, and Donkey Kong and only focus on Pratt alone also looks bad. Not to mention the fact Charles Martinet is actually still in the movie unlike the other video game voice actors and willingly stepped down and gave the cast his blessing. It makes the movement look like it has ulterior motives. Especially when the cast of the movie is assuredly being paid way more than the video game actors are so it has nothing to do with payrates.

I'm not a fan of every decision in NEO TWEWY's English script (imo, SE translations tend to have a little too much "personality," but I still prefer that over a flat approach that loses character voice entirely), but all the claims of "censorship" I've seen were the usual crowd of people with a rudimentary grasp of Japanese complaining about nothing. It was also a victim of people with unfortunate memory spans insisting that "sus" is always and necessarily a video game reference and not, you know, a preexisting bit of slang. Real grasping-at-straws stuff.

Not too familiar myself with much of it myself, but I did see they did the old add-in-a-character-ranting-about-Capitalism thing to the English version. Personally, I'm a fan of the concept of malicious compliance so whenever I see something like that in an English script I use that as justification to pirate the show or game. Afterall, it would be considered supporting Capitalism by paying a company for their product and the script did just tell me not to do that Razz

The concept of paying for goods is not unique to Capitalism, and you are literally being the "Yet you participate in society. Curious!" guy right now, aside from the fact that using a throwaway line from a nameless NPC as a justification to pirate a game is incredibly juvenile.

Voice actors absolutely need better pay and treatment. That's not a question. The issue with this is that someone who is deliberately misconstruing a situation (her quote in Bloomberg says Platinum is lying about the $15k, so she legitimately meant to say that they offered her only $4k) and also trying to throw someone under the bus who actually HAS stood for voice actors rights in the past with no clear endgame except pure spite is not actually helping the problem at all. It's just going to make internet jerks more suspicious the next time mistreatment comes up and actively harming people who actually care about fighting for this issue.

Why, yes, food is also produced in a for-profit manner so communist should just starve to death, right? To the same extent, all defenders of capitalism in socialist countries should also make a conscious choice to not consume and just starve, right? And someone living under a dictatorship and who doesn't like that system? Well, they also shouldn't consume anything and go live under a rock! Seems absolutely reasonable, uhum. Listen, no one chooses to be born under a certain sociopolitical system and no one is forced to like the sociopolitical system they're born in. So we do what we can to survive while trying to change things to something closer to what we believe.

On the whole dub debate, I think the comparison with actors in movies is a bit out there. The budget for movies and the budget for a game like Bayonetta 3 is totally different. I think there are no official numbers but Horizon Zero Dawn cost about 47 million dollars so it's likely that Bayonetta cost somewhere between 15 and 20 millions, which is far lower than an average Hollywood movie. So maybe 15k for a few sessions is reasonable? Honestly, I don't know. It looks OK to me but I'm Latin American, 15k seems like a lot to me, specially for just a few days of work. But, that aside, a lot of what has been said about this situation makes me a bit suspicious of the accusations but I suppose there's no way to know who's lying until more information comes to light.

Willfully misconstruing a throwaway gag line as a statement of intent from the translation team and then extrapolating it into a direction isn't "malicious compliance." The line just reads like someone in editing decided that more of this extraneous dialogue needed jokes to justify its existence. I'm not personally a fan of that kind of punch-up (although Square-Enix clearly has been for a long time), but the idea that it represents a political call to action, or even agreement with the sentiment, is a straw man so absurd you could burn Nicholas Cage alive in it. (The "cultural appropriation" line people threw a fit over was totally in keeping with the Japanese gag it translated, in case you want to bring that up next.)

You're perfectly within your rights to not support a release for translation choices you dislike, but pirating that same release in response is pure entitlement, no matter how you try to dress it up. Either buy a different release (like the Japanese version, which you should have no trouble reading if you're so confident in your criticism of the translation) or do without.
