Same here. Liked Kobeni in the manga, couldn't stand her in the latest episode. I think the explanation's simple: when I read the manga, I didn't have to listen to Kobeni screeching. This sort of thing happens to me often. I'll like a character in a manga, but then I'll hear their voice in the anime and find them annoying. Another recent example I can think of is Bon from To Your Eternity. |

For me, it absolutely has. Even though this season/cour is only gonna go up to the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the content that made me absolutely love the manga, what has been adapted so far has been done brilliantly. You don't get quality of this level very often, specially not for battle shonen adaptations.

As an anime-only, this is what bothers me about the discourse around Chainsaw Man and other adaptations of popular manga. It feels like people talk more about how the anime compares to the manga than about how the anime stands on its own. |

As an anime-only, I find Chainsaw Man interesting. I don’t love or hate it. The last episode wasn’t my favorite. I’m keeping with it because I’ve heard it’s amazing!

I'd say Kobeni is like Suletta from Witch from Mercury who so far has been startled by everything a person does.
I'd say the series is living up to the hype but not so much as I expected. I think no episode ever made it to the TV ranking where Spy X Family and My Hero Academia are currently competing. Maybe it was due to its timeslot? Also, what about the manga sales? Sometimes the anime release helps to improve the manga's sales as mentioned as none other than author Yukimura from Vinland Saga |

Well, sure. It's really rare for late-night anime to make those charts. Spy x Family is this big four-quadrant hit that I believe was the first manga to ever get to the million-copies-per-volume point within a year of its debut. Demon Slayer season 2 got even higher ratings, but by that point it was the certified Biggest Anime Phenomenon Ever. Chainsaw Man part 2 does better than MHA or SxF on Manga Plus, regularly dueling with One Piece for the top spot. But that crowd is specifically "international manga readers". I don't have any data on viewership demographics, but for TV ratings, I think you need some crossover appeal to the broader Japanese public. And it's no surprise if Denji and Power's Gory Adventures are a little more niche than the Forger family's antics. But yeah, the manga sales are getting a bump. It went from selling 171,289 copies in August and 140,400 in September to 1,200,048 in October -- not as much as Spy x Family, but they both got new volumes on 10/4 and SxF's did better. And CSM's still climbing on the weekly charts. |

I see. I wondered why Anime News Network stopped those sales articles too |

As an anime only viewer, I think this show is Pretty Good and I'm looking forward to more. It is very well made, no doubt about it.
I have gotten the impression, without reading spoilers, that the manga is one of those stories that "starts out good and then after a few big twists really hooks people". Just an assumption, though. (And I'm not asking for spoilers) I suppose that feeling is reinforced by watching some of the hyperbole about this show so far from many corners. This column is pretty reasonable, but the way some other places gush shiveringly over even typical plot developments and aspects is like...well it's a little ridiculous, and feels like it's largely out of anticipation for whatever's coming up. |

I've wondered the same ever since then. They still report Oricon's end-of-year and first-half-of-the-year charts (manga and LN both, by both series and volumes), but the last time they did the weekly or monthly ones was over three and a half years ago. It's a pity; manga fans discuss those figures a lot, but I haven't found any resource nearly as good for archived ones. Maybe it was just an expense they couldn't justify anymore? |

No, but I am enjoying it. Hopefully it reaches the heights manga readers are touting by the end of the season.
I felt bad for Kobeni at first, but then she got stabby and wanted to sacrifice Denji, so she lost me there (even if I can find that a believable reaction). Curious to see where she goes from here though. |

Never had an issue with Kobeni in either the manga, nor anime. All the devil hunters need to be a little cracked up to survive, and Kobeni is comedically awkward.
I love the manga and the anime is better than I ever would have expected. Will everyone love it? I don't know. I think we'll only get the first half this season where it really goes balls out by the end after some setup.. The 2nd half is amazing. How will it stack up with current seasons of other longer established shows like Bleach or MHA or Mob Psycho? Couldn't say, I've only read Bleach, and the new season of MHA is really good, leveraging everything it has built up over multiple arcs while Chainsaw-Man is still warming up... So I expect longer running shows might edge out Chainsaw-Man for some. I can only say that it has been a very long time since I've rewatched episodes from an anime show over and over again, and I have a big backlog that usually prioritizes new things , so that definitely means something! |

So, the edge that Power has over Popuko and Pipimi in this season's top shitlords is that the shit that Power is lord over is literal instead of metaphorical.
