I like that they got characters from all over the world, emphasizing on how wide spread virtual aritist culture is.

So they turned an anime about Kizuna Ai (presumably) into generic sci-fi idol show?

Why do they always make "legendary" characters disappear in these kind of anime?

So does this mean the hiatus was an angle to help hype up the anime?

Noelle and Riz are quite hot. Anyway I hope Ai makes some appearances in her own anime and not just be directly referenced.

For a Kizuna Ai anime there seems to be a distinct lack of Kizuna Ai in favor of OC's...but I guess I'm not that surprised. And the characters here look cute.

Mystery, intrigue, and to provide an ephemeral goal for the story lead. The disappearance of the "legend" is in part what makes them a legend. Thereafter, anyone else is forced, whether they want to or not, to stand in that legend's shadow and contend with the speculation on what became of the legend when they reached that pinnacle. It becomes an unspoken question whether there is something particularly special about reaching that height that allows you to see something others can't, or if this new person, the MC, can overcome whatever challenges the legend faced that caused them to disappear.

In effect, every idol anime is destined to follow a similar track - the MC striving to reach the level of some past legend. Simply going with "that person was great and just slowly faded from popularity" while realistic is dull for story-telling purposes. It lacks a certain amount of drama. Likewise, merely following a top-idol just being a top-idol doesn't offer viewers much. You end up with a story needing to invent conflict or exaggerate the mundane in a way that can come off as inauthentic or jarring. It can and has been done, but I don't know that Kizuna Ai is the right vehicle for that story. And even then, a point of the story is likely to turn on the fact that the legend you're following (Kizuna Ai) came up chasing the heights of some prior "legend" in their own right.
