Hope everyone's ready for Horikoshi's favorite quirk: spoiler[brutalizing women ]. Rolling Eyes

Besides that, I'm really happy with the pacing two episodes in. This is a long arc, so I'm glad it looks like they're planning the time out well!

It was really quick, but it seemed like when the High End using that telekinetic move clenched it's fist, her forearm exploded in tandem with how fast she was moving?

Is it bad that I'd rather that than have them be on standby, weirdly be designated to only fighting other girls, or simply get fights that aren't as high stakes as the male characters'? Honestly, with how messed up Deku and some others tend to get, I'm happy to see that the author isn't afraid to let the female characters in on the action.

Hey Nick, as a member of the ExArmy I would encourage my General to get "experimental" if you have to, we all would welcome that...

First two episodes were fantastic, hopefully this season stays more consistent as far quality as goes, and maybe Bones tries to use more outsourcing work to avoid a collapse in production. I know some people are still irky about the recaps at the beginning + opening leading to the actual episodes only having about 18 minutes of content, but the positives far outweight the negatives here.

She ripped a man's head off with her legs...

That's just wild. Kaminari's also a certified badass here.

It's been a while since I read this part of the manga, but doesn't she somehow recover from this or does she just permanently lose that arm?

It's wild just how ingrained this kinda stuff is; when the Dr is explaining Nomus, we see 15-20 seconds of High End footage from literally a few minutes before.

The reason why Horikoshi is able to move Mirko so well is because his first big Manga Ōmagadoki Dōbutsuen used a half man half bunny called.... Mr. Bunny as Male lead so he has a lot of experience moving this kind of character.

Deku's mask also have bunny ears-like features that in universe are explained as an reference to All Might's hair, but it's actually another reference to Mr Bunny.

We've had a few hiccups these past few seasons, but from here on out, MHA becomes consistently good if you ask me.

As for these first two episodes, so far so good. I'm glad we didn't get another recap as an opener. Also, I'm loving the new eyecatchers! They look fancy.

I personally never really got into the Mirko hype. She's cool I guess, and I like her fighting style, but I felt the first episode didn't do it justice. Her kicks had no weight to them, and the same thing happened in episode 2, except for the Luna Tijeras cut (Mirko gave the term "scissoring" a whole new meaning Laughing ). Her new theme is great tho!

99% of the women in MHA could be described as characters that do what you state here. I wouldn't describe Horikoshi as 'not afraid to let the female characters in on the action'. For the vast majority of screen time, women are not part of the high stakes action or decisions.

Hope the people who keep pushing this take actually justify it with a comparison between the number of dead or maimed male characters versus the female ones. My guess: as usual the male carnage is much greater but what happens to them "doesn't count" for some reason. All Might lost a lung and his digestive system? Kurogiri being Oboro Shirakumo's zombie? The whole thing with Endeavor's son? Lemillion losing his powers? Rock Lock getting nearly killed by Toga? Ingenium being made paraplegic by Stain (who Sir Nighteye being the first - and to this point the only - major onscreen hero death? Or Snatch, the only other onscreen hero death? And for 5 more guys (all as significant to the MHA plot as spoiler[Star and Stripe] which is where this nonsense got started) spoiler[ what happens with Best Jeanist, Edgeshot, Native, Crust and Bakugo in the manga?]

Forget not being consistent. Social media outrage doesn't even bother being factually correct these days.

Now this is a legit issue especially when considering even older works with their own "problematic" depictions of women like Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece had Tsunade (leader), Rukia (core group fighter) and Nami/Nico Robin (essentially both). Also, the main villains are all adult men motivated by their desires for power, revenge and destruction ... except for Toga, a cute teenage girl who is basically just yandere for Deku (and prior to becoming fixated with him merely wanted a circle of "friends" who wouldn't judge her penchant for murdering innocent people).

Not at all like the fake issues - feigned outrage over a comic book aimed at teenage boys is going to prominently feature skimpy drawings of teenage girls ... I guess these folks haven't read the old Archie and Josie and the Pussycats comics, plus outright false claims that it disproportionately subjects its female characters for violence - this is a legitimate one to ding Horikoshi over.

But not too much. A previous Horikoshi work - Oumagadoki Zoo - was one of the few targeting the shonen demo that had a female protagonist without being at all fanservice or CGDCT driven. Of course, said shonen manga with a teen female protagonist was never eye candy didn't succeed: lasted less than a year with only 5 volumes. Safe to say that he learned from that experience - and from his other attempts that didn't take - what works (plot/action centering young males and their issues and with plenty of cute/curvy females on the periphery) and what doesn't.
