Deserved, a great game that made me feel a lot of emotions (including a fair bit of frustration towards Malenia).

The choices were fine but it also felt like the choices were predictable.

Stop burying the lead. Bill Clinton's win won´t be denied!

The kid went from being on InfoWars (not a joke) to the Game Trailer Awards. Now that is character growth. I only saw a summary as these are cancerous to watch live but here Christopher Judge´s speech is full. The only thing from the night that isn´t a trailer worth seeing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ru5WuITQnWI&t=314s

Xenoblade (series) got screwed again. Should have at least won best soundtrack. Starting to think the VGA is worse than the Grammy's.

I have 120 hours in Xenoblade and I don’t think it’s anywhere near Elden Ring. Definitely got snubbed with best score though.

Elden Ring deserved the win, as obnoxiously hard as it can be.

Lmao people be thinking Xenoblade is actually good. Its anime equivalent of long running shonen with tons of filler, to pad out the game length. Its decent but nooooooooowhere near the fun and enjoyment provided by Elden Ring.

ER was the clear winner this year no question, hopefully Tears of the Kingdom matches the same awesomness next year!!!

Xenoblade got robbed. Elden Ring is fine and all, but Xenoblade deserved. Or at least the soundtrack

Also, shout out to my man Bill Clinton who converted to Judaism for some reason and helped with the development of Elden Ring.

If it were the Grammy’s it wouldn’t have been nominated in its respective categories……..or that’s the Oscar’s can’t remember Razz

Don't be that guy dude. We weren't even expected to be nominated for GOTY. We were just happy to be included. And padding? Well ER has that too with it's difficultly. At the least we should have had the Soundtrack because all the other games sounded the same with not much variety compared to XC3 which had like 5 epic boss themes alone to start off with. God of War won the award because it was God of War and not because of it's score.

The games have won awards and been nominated in the past for their music. So it’s safe to assume it won because the people involved liked the music not simply because “it’s God Of War”.

To clear up some misinformation that's making the rounds and may pop up here, he was on Info Wars because he was being interviewed for being kicked out of an NBA game for protesting their stance on Hong Kong and China. He trolled the NBA fancam with a Free Hong Kong t-shirt. He did a similar thing at BlizzCon 2019 when he rushed the stage during the Q&A panel screaming to free Hong Kong after the Blitzchung Incident. He has a history of doing these kinds of political activism stunts it would seem.

I mean, The Game Awards are critic favored and base their awards 99% on game journalists and critics. Us common folk have little to no say in the matter outside the Player Voice category which was a huge Sonic VS Genshin Impact war this year. The fact the nominations were locked in before Ragnarok even came out or very close to it is pretty obvious it's just an industry thing. It's pretty easy to tell what's going to win each year if you know what kind of game critics generally look for and praise.

As for why Elden Ring won GOTY, I suppose even they couldn't deny the huge impact it had on the landscape and lasting pop culture. The game was relevant for months after release and still is even today; what with Animal from the Muppets gushing over Malenia.
Meanwhile, Ragnarok is already fading out of the public eye as people move on to the newest shiny AAA game, not unlike a the assembly line of superhero movies that come out every year. It's also why Horizon got completely shut out of any awards: those folks had already moved on to Ragnarok.

It was!?

Especially in light of Origins hurting feelings pre and post launch.

FW came out all the way in February so of course it faded into the ether . Though having said that ER also came out the same month. Maybe Elden Ring simply had more stuff that stuck with people by comparison it also had the benefit of being of more systems than FW.
