Guessing it'll adapt Chapters 4-6 given the title.7 and 8 are way too big to fit in and can fill an entire season or movie.

Honestly - I am not even sure how it goes at this point - because the adaptation itself lost any ability to bring the new audience for Arknights and even the fanbase is not really that much pleased with the direction of TV anime, even if it's quality being at least fine.
Prelude to Dawn was so underwhelming and went under the radar really quickly mainly because of really sloppy writing without any emphasis on the action of the characters even when it demanded it — when most of the season was literally nothing but literal boredom when characters just move from one location to another and give nothing but the massive info dump, and even when the action finally kicks in — it runs out of steam really quickly, because the Yostar Pictures team is still very inexperienced to do the full series. Plus there is also the fact that Yostar/Hypergryph also decided to use the Chinese level of censorship to even Japanese broadcast slots, which also made all the action happening on screen bland as heck, and it's not even using the strongest side of AK - the really versatile soundtrack.
And now if they don't learn from their mistakes to improve it somehow, the whole thing will just become even messier in later parts.

I will say they are good at making freaked out faces and eyes. But yeah, their extreme aversion to showing anything too complicated or violent to animate (ie: big fight scenes) was made very apparent this season, and without that I'm not too sure what the point of following the anime is. Maybe this is just me, but they also somehow managed to reduce the impact of the climax of chapter 3, which is an impressive feat when you're adding voices to an emotional scene.
That said, yes, the title of the new announcement makes it pretty clear that it's season 2 covering episodes 4-6. Or I suppose it could theoretically be a movie or OVA covering the same story arc.

I saw the first episode and dropped it afterwards, this should've not been adapted at all with Yostar's extreme meddling, I knew something was off only 30 seconds in.

How is it Yostar's meddling? It's their show made by their animation studio.

Don't know what you're talking about, I don't play the game but I loved the animie. I thought the story was great. The action isn't the point of watching for me, it's the story.
