I’m happy to see that Hidive has been acquiring a lot more anime titles these past few seasons but man I wish they would upgrade their service, the apps need a big QOL improvement.

I hate that HiDive streams so much anime. It bares anyone outside US (and there the heck else it airs) from watching them legally with english translation.

Well, the same can be said about CR at times. What can help is if there is a streaming service for a particular region that streams an anime title for that region that HIDIVE or CR stream in America/Canada.

CR is significantly better in that regard, at least as far as new simulcasts are concerned. (Catalog titles are a different story...) Hidive's regional availability seems to be limited only to the usual suspects (US/CA/UK/IE/AU/NZ) as well as a rather limited number of European countries (mine is luckily one of them). Meanwhile, nowadays with Crunchyroll's new simulcast announcements it's almost always quicker to list the territories they're not available in rather than the ones they are.

Crunchyroll at least is available in regions outside the U.S. like Europe and Latin America, and in the last five years they've been dubbing various shows into different languages and and have heavily advertised their service. HiDive on the other hand has left several regions and when they license a particular series they block it throughout the region and it cannot be viewed legally.
There's a brand new streaming service in Latin America called Anime Onegai, and just this year have licensed and dubbed various shows like Katekyo Hitman Reborn!, World Trigger, Nyaruko-san, Uta no Prince-sama, and recently announced the dubs for series like Hikaru no Go and SKET Dance. Anime Onegai is associated with ANIMEKA and REMOW, so they also have connections with Shueisha TV Tokyo and Toei Animation, but I don't think they can accquire the shows HiDive has licensed. Though they recently announced the dub for Actually I Am, which is a TMS show, so perhaps they could license anime like Lupin III which are currently licensed by HiDive.

Is it me or did Hidive get sloppy? They used to at the least have dates and regions in which the shows would be available.

Now it's just a guessing game until shortly before it airs.

I am happy for Sentai/HIDIVE. If they have 14 titles I assume they also have the Angel Next Door Spoils me Rotten and Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess.

It is unfortunate that monopoly apologists continue to hate on HIDIVE for daring to attempt to offer some competition for Crunchyroll.

I feel the same way you do, I’m glad that Sentai/Hidive is licensing more shows now, when they announced that they would be streaming Oshi no Ko later next year I was happy for them. But I really wish they would fix their apps because they need some serious improvements.

You know, I am not for monopoly. I would have gladly got HiDive subscription, but it simply works only in a very few countries outside US.

I can say the same that US guys do not care about the other world and hate Crunchyroll for competing.

I'm sad to see HiDive didn't get s2 of Vinland Saga but will Crunchyroll still be able to dub it with the Sentai cast?

You realize that most people that hate on HiDive are people who in live regions that don't have legal access and can't watch any shows licensed by HiDive right? Because for some bizarre reason, ever since they got bought out by AMC their progress for improvements have hilariously gone backwards. They've shut down their service in a handful of non-English speaking regions and the people who used to be subscribed to them in those regions have no choice but to resort to piracy. Apparently they even bother to translate their shows in certain languages that they stream in those certain regions. Of course they're going to "hate" Hidive for picking up "x" show because CR, whether you hate them or love them, provides this convenient availability...

Also, I know you're definitely referring to me as one those "monopoly apologists" since I've said on multiple occasions that I don't care if CR has a "monopoly" if they somehow gobble up Sentai in the future. That's totally fine with me because I'm just being 1000% honest: I just want my Asian cartoons in one place without having subscribe to too many services. Saves me the trouble of yo-ho-ing shows licensed by Hidive...

I can symphatize with fans living in regions not covered by HIDIVE. My issue is mostly with NA fans who want HIDIVE to go away because they are willing to support a monopoly if it means having everything in one place.

I mean...I personally don't care for HiDives catalog and service. So make of that what you will.

I can’t speak for everybody when I say this, but for me personally, having multiple subscription is a pain in the ass because it costs money and it does add up. You’re more than welcome to make the argument of “it’s just $5” or “stop being cheap” but people like me simply don’t like spending money (whether we are loaded or not). If hidive/Sentai created a streaming service before CR and they were the top dogs you bet I want them to be the one stop shop but hey CR just happened to be first out of everybody.

Anyways that’s just my brutally honest opinion…
