are you sure it's a children's show? Kids Station also aired Narutaru.

Hahaha!!! That's funny. The creator of 'Hokuto no Ken' to produce a children's show. Well, his shows did have kids in them. The jokes just fly out the window of kids making other kid's heads blow up.

That would be rough.

But this is interesting. Well, he's been in the business so why not. If he can do it. The premise already sounds interesting enough.

After years of so much ultraviolence, I'd want to do something as decapitation-free as well.

Here's the best test: you can check out the web picture book version.

Thank you for providing that link. That's what we needed. I was curious to see what this book looked like. Personally this looks like something up 'Akira Toriyama's lane. I mean an "orange" kid? Yeah, it's a kid story alright. Wink

Although it's not commonly thought of as such here, it's worth noting that Hokuto no Ken aka Fist of the North Star is itself a series for children. Indeed, it pretty much established the "Shonen Jump" anime formula that when done effectively is a license to print money for near-eternity. DBZ, One Piece, Naruto, Rurouni Kenshin, Bleach, you name it: these are all children's shows.

Still, it is a noticeable change of pace for Hara, as this series appears to be for children younger than the Shonen Jump-reading crowd and therefore probably won't have quite as many people having their eyeball pop out upon death regardless of the actual cause of death. What's more, the hero DOESN'T look exactly like Kenshiro for once. Perhaps his eye condition that (as far as I understand) effectively results in legal blindness finally caught up to him.

What I'm trying to say is that it appears that the body count is merely in the single digits this time around. Tetsuo Hara is still an immortal God-King in my book though, since nothing offers a greater amount of per capita entertainment than generic Hokuto no Ken thugs, which can defeat pirates, ninjas, zombies, cowboys, unicorns, hobos, and whatever else the Internet can dish out. They're just not so good against successors of Hokuto. Or Nanto. Or Gento. Or people who just sort of teach themselves how to fight. Actually, Hokuto no Ken thugs are only adept at defeating helpless villagers, of which I would be one of.

How is this a big shock? I am fairly sure he was making the books for a while now.
Other than people going "OMG he went from heads sploding to this?"

Let the guy widen his subjects without criticism for pete sake.

Actually, you can see signs of Hara heading into a non-violent direction with Fist of the Blue Sky. No, really. It's the complete opposite-in terms of execution-of the sequel. North Star's Kenshiro had a tendency to let his emotions dictate his fights. But the Blue Sky version tends to be non-confrontational, and even when he does get into fights, Kenshiro still doesn't use his finishing moves that easily.

I always love seeing HnK in the news.

A years back, it would have been an almost impossibility. Hardly anyone's ever heard of it, outside of Japan.

This IS a surprising twist, and I do agree with the previous poster who stated this looks Toriyama-esque.

This is indeed true. If you recall in Gantz Kato mentions Kenshiro several times to his kid brother (who is about the age of a typical Jump fan) when questioning his own morality. I remember watching the commercials that aired during Hokuto no Ken and thinking that they were aimed at really young kids.
