I'm all for delays, as long as they are for a good reason, like polish, QC and simple TLC. Or even just minimizing crunch. Reviews can greatly impact the success of a game, so the better the title is on release day, the more likely it is to be successful overall. We can afford to wait a little.

I've never played an Atelier game before although I've always been curious for years with this particular game having my attention after seeing the Nintendo Direct trailer and it looked very good assuming they were using Switch footage. Seems like they were going all out like it was their last chance a la Fire Emblem Awakening.

Might get it for Steam if it's compatible with the the Deck/Linux if not Switch. Do I need to know anything about the previous games or is it like Xenoblade 3 and Persona 4/5 where it's more fun fan service if you've played the previous games?

Regardless I wish the devs all the best.

You don't need to play any of the other Atelier games. However, if you play through the Atelier Ryza series starting from the first, you get the benefit of following the main characters(and some side characters) as they develop in each installment.
