I still couldn't even begin to tell what Real Bout High School's plot was actually about because Tokyopop's translation was so bad. Something about resolving disputes in school with brawling, then it turns into something about dudes making ryona videos and selling them.

I guess thats it?

I remember the anime was super different because they like beat up actual monsters in a sort of alternate universe (I only saw like a few eps of the anime but I know when I read the manga after I was like ?????????)
But the manga was just they sorted disputes via tournaments.

Anyway, the art in real bout highschool manga used to be a big influence to my art many years ago. I'd be interested in reading this, the key art looks cute.

In Real Bout High School (the anime) the way disputes at the high school can be resolved by "K-fights" - where the K stands for "street fight" - complete with play-by-play commentary by the school principal.

The Samurai Girl is a champion at the K fights, fighting with a bokken (wooden sword). Oh, and she's being stalked by a photographer who is selling photographs of her.

Then it gets weird, and she gets transported to another world.

I still enjoyed the anime, even if it was weird.

I actually looked into this myself recently, because I remember it being weird, so here it is. The original light novel (which ran until 2010!) starred a teacher who would occasionally fight enemies in another dimension; Sora Inoue did the art for the entire run. The manga, then, was a prequel to the light novels that starred the LN's supporting cast & had nothing to do with the alternate dimension & just revolved around fights between students; the manga story was then adapted into a LN spin-off by the original author, since the manga was mostly done by the Sora Inoue. The anime, then, was based more on the LN by involving the alternate dimension but was still its own story, since it didn't star the LN's lead & instead starred the manga's lead.

Still kind of confusing, sure, but at least it now makes some sort of sense.
