Wonder if this will clash with EU laws? What I remember there's one clause that says even if you go to another EU country you are allowed to use streaming services you are subscribed to in your home country. More info here;

I was sharing an account with my cousins and aunt, and they have lost access. I canceled my subscrition because of this. The big advantage of streaming services for me is that they are way more practical than piracy for a reasonable price.
Not-a-lawyer here, and not very knowledgeable on this matter, but it seems Netflix in tracking IPs and devices to pull this system off, and I'm pretty sure that clashes with the Regulation that establishes data protection in the EU (GDPR). |

Also not a lawyer, but most likely that GDPR part isn't true (no idea on the other piece the other user was mentioning). IP and device is a huge part of the zero-trust model, and it would be extremely detrimental to the future cybersecurity of the people in the EU if companies were not allowed to use these things to verify the user. You (and I) might not like how Netflix is using this to try to drive profit, but these are important pieces of data for driving general account security. It would be extremely stupid to ban using these pieces of information to verify account logins. Now maybe they're required to notify the users that these are tracked like the rules around cookies, and there are rules around moving and sharing GDPR data. |

Do yourself a favor and get HBO Max, quite possibly the best streaming service ever.
Netflix is full of garbage original content nowadays, its not worth the trouble of tolerating those anti-consumer measures. The whole point of having a Netflix is the ability to watch it anywhere! Imagine requesting those dipshits' permission to get a 7 days exemption to watch it while traveling, a service that you paid for and should get with no questions asked. Get the F out of here with that Bullshit! |

And when Netflix suffers the consequence they might actually backtrack. I wonder how many subscribers they'll lose and the long-term implications.
Not for long if Zaslav's plans of selling off the best shows, funding majority unscripted reality TV shows and combining it with Discovery+ come to fruition. |

Oh yeah, get the service from the company that threw out infinity train, summer camp island mao mao, close enough, and final space for more shitty reality shows courtesy of the multiple mergers that caused sonymation to buy out crunchyroll in the first place. That's tooootally a good idea! -_- i mean come on you might as well mooch off someone else's disney plus at this point. not subscribing to it yourself, but mooching off someone else. Or just, y'know, the usual. |

Pretty sure that’s the point of almost any streaming service……besides being a cheaper alternative to traditional cable television.
Dude HBO Max is no more consumer or rather viewer friendly than Netflix. Let’s not even mention how Zaslev has screwed people who worked many of the shows that were canceled on the service out of residuals. In addition to many of the people at the company who were laid off. |

Those prices for the add-on account sure vary quite a bit, huh? You'd think they'd want it a bit more standardized to avoid some eyebrow raising (at least for EU countries). The price seems a bit high, but not outside of reason. I think $5 or less would probably be where you'd want it for the US, at least for marketing it.
Just skimming through it, that seems to be about charging people more to access the same content they would at home. So if you have a local streaming channel and go to another EU country, you can't be charged more to access it while you're out of town. I don't think that would apply, because Netflix isn't charging you more to access your content when you're away. I would presume that people who don't live with you wouldn't be covered by this (since that's not what you're paying for), so it likely wouldn't apply. At least that's how I interpret it.
I imagine that Netflix expects that any subscriber loss will either be made up over time, not be consequential and/or still work out better for their bottom line. Even if they don't retain at least one person from the multiple people sharing an account, they still save in terms of operational costs for all those unpaying users. I don't know what those costs are of course, but I would presume they would add up. Let's say they lose 1 million subscribers globally from this plan, but now have 5 million fewer viewers using their resources without paying for it, that could provide some significant savings to their bottom line. |

HBO Max isn't offered (officially) in Canada, although a lot of its original programming gets split up among Canadian services like Crave TV and sometimes HBO Max originals even show up on basic cable stations like Much. Sadly, the most recent HBO Max show to appear on Much is Velma, thus ensuring that I turn off the IPTV cable box immediately after the new episode of South Park has finished airing. |
