I really like this review and I agree with almost all of it. Thank you for continuing to review IDOLiSH7 despite its low popularity!
I'm hoping for a season 4 announcement after the movie!

You're welcome! I honestly never expected to love the series so much, but it has become one of my all-time favorites. I hope you're right about a season four!

I deeply resent this review for not mentioning Iori at all, despite his meteoric rise to best-boydom this season. Riku's main character card got revoked with no chance of appeal. Laughing (I kid!) I imagine the real blame lies with his entire arc being really hard to talk about. Anime dazed Iori's always been a secondary rival to Riku, the 1 to his 7, only to get overshadowed by Tenn whenever the drama started, but this arc changed their dynamic into something I don't think I've seen anywhere else.

I think I7 is what you get if you take all the ingredients of Generic Male Idol Series #1013 and throw in a central mystery that takes cues from The X-Files. Remember the group's first single? "spoiler[MONSTER GENERATiON]". Yep. That double meaning has been staring us in the face for literal years at this point. It's hard to tell how much was planned from the beginning versus how much is just being made up along the way, but damn is it compelling.

And that's without even talking about how the diegetic nature of the concert pieces have somehow been cranked up even further. "Taiyou no Esperanza" stands out as a very blatant, very personal dunk on Tsukumo (the "black cloud that swallowed the moon" -> "Tsukumo" is written "moon cloud"). It's really a shame there aren't song subtitles, because that song is 100% burn.

("spoiler[Sakura Message]" from last cours is also exactly what it says it is, if anyone feels like sitting down with a pen and paper for some code-breaking. The solution will air with season 4, if it gets announced.)

Now we wait for the movie!

Got it in one! Iori's my favorite of the group, but everything I wrote about him I ended up cutting from the review because I just couldn't get it right. Very frustrating.

It's been such a refreshing experience to see folks who wouldn't watch this otherwise enjoy this show. This genre in particular is hard to convince folks to watch, but i7 is one that I especially think is a good entry for any anime fan. Even if it is the only one of this genre to watch, it's a good choice. Appreciate the honest and thorough review of this season. It's only going to get more dramatic from here on out, but it'll be a great experience regardless~

Thank you so much for the great review!
I adore Idolish7 and it's so sad is so underappreciated… The plot is not only solid, but also amazing in it's thoroughness and detail. It's amazing how it sticks to what the characters are personality-wise that one can see what they are likely to do in agreement to their personalities. spoiler[Later on the plot relating to the Tenn and Kujo Takamasa issue, I totally thought the writers of the game were going to follow the dramatic route just for the sake of adding suspense but no, the brainy characters (Iori and Tenn himself) actually went with the intelligent option one would have expected from them all along.]
I recommend it whenever I can to people who like complex stories with well-written characters. I can's say enough: the music, the visuals, etc.
Again, thank you.
