Early opening means I assume they're confident in it.

I'm excited for it too~! While I've not seen many of their movies, I do love Illumination's work. And they've brought this world to life so beautifully~ I haven't really looked into what the story actually is, I mean, LOL I like the old games so I'm honestly just in for a good time. And WHILE I'm not a big fan of Pratt's Mario, there is so much going for this that I'll go with it, again, for a good time.

Edit: Spelling mistake. Go me.

Considering the success of the rest of Illumination's films like The Secret Life of Pets and Sing, I am certain that Super Mario Bros. can easily become the most successful video game movie of all time, easily surpassing Warcraft, which earned $543.2 million back in 2016. Mario has no serious competition until the release of GotG 3 (ironically also starred by Pratt). We'll see if Mario's brand name and Universal's marketing can make the movie gross more than 700 million worldwide. It'll also depend on the quality of the movie, though Illumination has never made a truly awful movie in my opinion, the Lorax is perhaps their only truly bad movie, but they haven't made anything as bad as Sony's The Emoji Movie for example.

Are we judging the emoji movie’s quality on its script or its box office performance. Because while it was lambasted by critics and moviegoers still made a modest return at the box office.

So it’s definitely not in the same category animated box office bombs as say Treasure Planet or The Ratchet & Clank movie.

Yeah this film is going to rake it in, the only possible rival I think it has for biggest film of 2023 is the new Mission Impossible in the summer

I was referring to the quality of their scripts, Illumination's films don't shine for the depth of their scripts, but I wouldn't call them awful, they're just fine, it would be nice if they could achieve Pixar or DreamWorks quality, but I don't think they have fallen into the category of animated disasters, like The Emoji Movie, Norm of the North, or other of animated movies that always get tons of angry video reviews. The Lorax is the closest thing that Illumination has made to a bad movie, considering how poorly they adapted a classic Dr. Seuss story, not to mention all the marketing deals Universal made, despite the story having an environmental message
We'll see how much Nintendo has been involved in the making of the film to see if Illumination made a product that met their standards.

I very rarely go to the movies anymore, but I think I'll make an exception for this.
