It took 16 years, but it happened! Can't wait to see if it will somehow surpass BT3 in terms of pure roster size.

Raging Blast and Ultimate Tenkaichi aren't part of the same series despite having similar names, especially in the case of the latter.

In Japan, all of the BT games have the Sparking name while Raging Blast has the same name as the English title and UT is Ultimate Blast. In the case of UT being the name, it was based on a fan vote iirc.

^They're all developed by Spike so it doesn't really matter.

I imagine a lot of comparisons will be made with the more details that come out on this one.

Honestly not sure what to make of this. I'd like to be optimistic, as I loved the old PS2 games... but a huge chunk of why those games are considered as good as they are is the sheer quantity of stages and characters they contained. Not really sure that's viable with modern budgets -- I'm afraid we'll get something closer to Tenkaichi 1 than Tenkaichi 3.

Well, still, better to be optimistic. Pretty much all of the DBZ games we got last gen were pretty solid. And if they could build a super robust CAC engine (far moreso than the simplistic stuff in Xenoverse) it might be viable to see a core roster of polished characters supplemented by a number of other fighters with generic movesets (think Cui).

Tenkaichi games were even worse than the Budokai games because every single character basically had nothing stand out or unique outside of transformations.

It's going to be funny seeing all the FighterZ people try to explain why Budokai Tekaichi is a flawed and non-competitive while tons of people play it and forget that people like these games to just be fun and crazy.

Almost as if people loved these games simply because they were incredibly fun and not because they were "technically great" or had riveting gameplay. Almost as if that was the entire purpose of videogames to begin with, right?

That's neat! I remember getting the third game back in 2008. I'll look forward to that... Or so I say, I haven't played a DB game since Xenoverse 2. I loved the Xenoverse games and would love to see them continue. I also want to play the Kakarot game, but haven't gotten around to it.

So basically people enjoyed playing trash or a game that was trash adjacent?

I can’t count on both hands the number of times I’ve seen people bemoan how gameplay is integral to the very core of a game who cares about writing and anything else gameplay is what matters (eventhough depending on game both should matter). And yet you’re openly admitting that the Sparking games weren’t much with regards to gameplay

Not to mention if you paid any attention to places like Twitter when this announcement dropped there was a lot of weird pissing on of Xenoverse and Heroes I even had a guy tell me to go kill myself of because I disagreed with the notion that “all” DragonBall fans wanted another Sparking game which yes not everyone wanted.

Basically in short what’s fun is purely subjective.

Sounds fun, but if it doesn't have motion controls it is never going to top BT3 because nothing makes you feel more alive as a DBZ-fan than striking the Kamehameha-pose and have something actually happen.

You’re joking right?

Especially with regards to how motion controls didn’t help DBZ for Kinect

Seems to be a lot of misunderstanding in this thread as to why BT3 is so beloved and why the hype for this announcement is so real. This was magnified by the fact that, in the age of leaks, this came out of nowhere and no one saw it coming.

What makes this series so special is its strong universal mechanics, the surprising technical depth, and all while to this day being unrivaled as the most accurate "Dragon Ball Simulator" ever made. No one cared about "balance" in the sense that we think of today because the imbalance was true to the series.

Raging Blast, Burst Limit, and Xenoverse are all poor, lesser imitations that tried to change what was never broken.

The term GOAT is overused these days, but when it comes to BT and DBZ games it's facts.
