Interesting. It's been a long time since the last anime (Happy Lucky Bikkuriman in 2006).
The chocolate wafers have mostly been collaborations (everything from Demon Slayer to Star Wars) and reprints of the classic Devil vs Angel line. There was an attempt a few years ago to do a modern interpretation with card game elements, but it never made it past one volume. The closest equivalents were Bandai's defunct Shinra Bansho and its successor Gao Road, which just ended recently. Aside from doujinshi scale stuff, it seems like "original story cards/stickers with candy" lines don't really hit anymore - it's all just licensed stuff now. So it does make me wonder if Bikkurimen here is going to be a strictly anime thing. It certainly could be, but I do wonder if they'll make a push to sell new wafer stickers again. |
