Rational thought would agree, but it's very much the opposite. My former exchange student, who now resides in Yokohama, says that Eva is not dead. And far from it. There is still massive merchandise, and people are buying it. Yes, the movie is down, but he insists that the numbers don't matter.

I'm taking his word for it. Not the generalized assumption.

And #8 is still a long way from "dead".

Arc: I'm sure there are people buying the junk associated with the show as usual, but is it still at the same level as it was in previous years?

Hitokiri: Going to number 8 that fast is usually not a good sign for a film.

It may not be as popular as it was before, but that still doesn't mean it's "dead."

A similar comparison to this would be the 1997 re-release of the Star Wars movies here in the States. They shatter box office records in weekends, but usually go down the list as time passes. But we all know that Star Wars is not dead; and will never be -at least not for awhile. As long as "junk" (or so you call it) merchandise is selling, cash is being made, and people remember, the franchise will live on. Not to mention that EVA left a pretty big footprint in the history of contemporary Japanese entertainment.

You just wait until the 2nd film comes out... then tell us EVA is dead. Cool

Forget misread "signs." Count the money.

The newest Evangelion movie has made $12.8 million after five weeks. The last movie, The End of Evangelion made $12.7 million during its entire run.

The newest Eva movie has now made more money at the box office in five weeks than the last Eva movie during its entire run. And the newest Eva movie is still making money.

And there are three more to go.
