That was.... fun. Most fights in the franchise tend to be a typical RPG style of punches the enemy blocks or receives. The movie is actually pulling some coreography. The best coreography in the Seiya anime has to be Shaka vs. Saga, Camus and Shura as the OVAs gave them a lot of movements.

Pathé has the film listed for May 11th in the Netherlands! I'm glad it's coming, I'm very much willing to give it a try.

I watched it last night, it's not bad.

I went fearing of another DB: Evolution, but fortunately I was wrong, it's very serviceable,
and the characters are well portrayed. Also, the movie managed to lay the foundations for future sequels and the world building without dumping exposition on the viewer. The fight choreographies were well thought and executed, but fell short of what they wanted to accomplish due to CGI constrains.

Speaking of CGI, it's not the best there is, but it is serviceable enough for the purposes of the movie, though I hope future sequels can get more budget to go further.

Overall a nice starting point for the franchise and I can't wait for the galactic tournament and the 12 houses arcs.

Saw a spot for the Canadian release here: https://youtu.be/Jkk69j8KSI4 Two of the Latin American fans who saw it liked the movie, and commented on it.

Well at the very least we seem to have avoided a Dragonball Evolution scenario.

Beat: Anyway, hating on Dragon Ball Evolution is out of fashion. Ant-Man 3 is currently the comic book film inspiring resentment. So, if SS is better than it, then that's progress.

Just saw the movie. Yeah, it's no Dragon Ball evolution. But it's also not a good movie, I rated it 5 on imdb.

SPOILERS AHEAD: (BTW I will call the characters in their originl nmes, I don't remember the new names)

As a kid you watched Saint Seiya because of the violent fights and endearing characters. The story of original SS is pretty simple "Good guys defend Athena from bad guys". Well EVERYTHING from the original story is different here.

Chances are your favorite knight is not present. And the main characters are...

-Seiya, which Mackenyu did a good job.

-Saori which omg.. She is such a boring character in the orignal story. Ok, I guess you can't have the movie without her BUT Athena spends most of the arcs in OG SS basically being rescued. Sleeping with an arrow on her chest during the 12 houses arc.. She is pretty much a "mute" character. And she was given this stupid character arc of trying to control her powers.

-Mitsumasa Kido and Tatsumi LOL

-Cassius ... ? For real?

Mitsumasa, Tatsumi, effing Cassius barely appear in the original story at all.. Who was responsible for this decision? Who in their sane minds would think SS fans would like having any of these characters over the classic saints or any silver saint as the enemy in turn?

As an action movie it's kind of just meh, but as a Saint Seiya movie it's kind of an insult, it's barely SS withouth Shiryu, Shun or Hyoga.

To end with a positive note, the effects were good (not Marvel level CGI of course, but serviceable) and there were a couple of scenes with an orchestated version of the classic themes that I thought were pretty cool.

The director talks about his goal in adapting the film, and is taking questions from Japanese fans. https://twitter.com/kotz_movie_jp/status/1652613775738957825
