Disgusting scumbag should have got a lot more. Only having to serve 3 years in prison is a joke, the pedo should never be allowed to to walk around in public ever again.

What is the point of sentencing criminals for life and then bringing that down to basically nothing?

He wasn't sentenced to life, he was sentenced to 10 years, with 7 suspended. This is a very common tactic with non-violent criminals.

When this is done, the court is effectively saying, "this guy deserves a 3 year prison sentence, but we want to be able to impose very strict conditions upon his release, and remand him immediately to many more years in prison should he fail to to abide by those conditions." So while it's technically "getting out after only completing 3 years," the practical purpose is more "extending 3 years to 10 if he doesn't behave."

3 Years is also fairly typical for consumption. They added on "distributing" as a technicality because it's BitTorrent (So remember, everytime you download pirated material on BT, you're also technically distributing).

Given the production history in Japan, particularly since those were minors in his case, I feel that 3 years isn't enough. I wonder if couldn't take that into consideration because he was never actually convicted there.

He probably won't be walking in public ever again.

Unless they put him in solitary, he's going to be on everyone's hit list for the next 3 years in jail. Other inmates don't take kindly to pedophiles.

It was 10 years for each count. But for some reason they don't add up and are also reduced to just 3. It would be for life(80 years is basically that) if that bs didn't exist.

It isn't just this "non violent" case or just a case in Japan.

Why do people like these get second+ chances and "fair treatment"?

What we have here is the distinction between concurrent and consecutive sentencing:

Lol the whole thing is hilarious, I hope south park makes an episode with this someday, I mean with the justice system for this cases (only 3 of 10) and this too:

supervised probation, which will include mental health counseling. Koza must also enter and complete sex offender treatment. (lol) Additionally, he will not be allowed to use devices that have internet access, and he cannot have access to cameras or visual recording devices.

Nah, we need more consciousness about it damn Mad

At least he has to face the music in the US. 3 years in jail and his life ruined forever. Especially due to prisoners coming down hard on pedos. That might be the real punishment. How the hell did he manage to hide his Japanese deportation and he of course didn´t have to face any real consequences there. Of course.

Sometimes it feels like the only mangaka or translators guaranteed to not have any cp on them are those involved with lolicon/shotacon manga.

Putting him in general population is an automatic death sentence.
He'll mostly be in solitary or put in a minimal security prison with other sex offenders.
Whether he leaves prison or not, his life & reputation is forever ruined.
