Chris Pratt must be swimming in money right now.

If Chris really feels like that, then he needs to pull his head from out of his other side, cause no one saw it for Chris. They saw it for Mario.

More like Miyamoto and Meledandri are swimming in it.

I’m sure he’s aware of that.

I’m also sure he’s aware he’s been running the box office for close to two months. Dude needs to get a Mario arcade machine for his house to remind him of the success.

If you are an established lead actor with top billing status then you not only get your upfront salary but a backend bonus based on the total box office gross. Scarlett Johannsen's bonus rate for Black Widow would have paid out $50 million had the movie grossed $1 billion. Mario Bros and GotG 3 are going to make a combined $2 billion so presuming similar contract terms he will get $100 million. Top billed actors also get a portion of DVD, digital and streaming revenue as well as merchandising revenue. They won't be much for GoTG 3 - as ancillary revenue diminishes for each sequel - but as the first installment for a movie that performed extremely well among children and families for Mario they will be substantial.

That is what the person to which you responded was referring to. And it is unrelated to Pratt's feelings or whether anyone saw GotG3 or Mario because of him.

Now that the film is available digitally I think it's performance in theaters is finally going to drop hard, but perhaps its Japanese run may give it enough money to surpass Incredibles II and Frozen, which at this point would make it as the third highest-grossing animated film of all time.

Seeing as how he has been in 3 different franchises that have managed to exceed a billion each (the others being the MCU and Jurassic Park), I have to admit that he (or his agent) really knows which projects to choose. Although I don't think people went to see the Mario movie because of his involvement on it, especially in international markets where the movie wasn't even shown in English.

This cuts both ways though if we acknowledge that no one saw it because of Pratt then no one was going to see it for Charles Martinet which means all the people butthurt over this can now move on instead of getting hung up on that.

But it’s also funny people saw it because it’s Mario considering the initial incredulousness over the movie’s announcement. Which yes was born of cynicism but still.

He's lucky to be in a couple of movies that were pre-determined to be successful, but none of them were a success from him being top billed. I think some people need to get realistic on that.

Literally nobody is arguing otherwise. The original statement was "wow, Chris Pratt is probably making a lot of money" and you going "If he feels like he's making a lot of money, he should pull his head out of his ass."

You can hate Chris Pratt, but at least keep your complaints relevant and sensical.

"Predetermined to be successful" my left foot. Anyone who claims that they knew back in 2013 that The Lego Movie was going to make nearly half a billion dollars or that Guardians of the Galaxy was going to be the 3rd highest grossing MCU film at the time is lying. Both were extremely risky projects at the time that significantly outperformed even the most optimistic projections. Jurassic World? Same. The prior Jurassic Park movie was 14 years earlier and a massive disappointment, outperformed by Rush Hour 2 domestically and Planet of the Apes (also a flop) globally. Even those who predicted that it would be a hit had no idea it was going to make $1.67 billion and be - at the time - the #3 film in box office history. Instead people were willing to call it a success had it only made half that much. Even the Mario Bros movie ... name the people who predicted that it would outearn The Incredibles 2 and perhaps even Frozen. Some box office analysts were predicting that it would make as little as $500 million (which by the way would have still surpassed Uncharted, Rampage, the Sonic films, Detective Pikachu and Warcraft to be the most successful video game film of all time).

Pratt got the Jurassic World and Mario Bros gigs because The Lego Movie and Guardians of the Galaxy far surpassed expectations. You can dismiss it as "luck" if it is your prerogative, but it is notable that no one else from the MCU or the DC movies - not even Robert Downey Jr. or Christian Bale - has experienced the same.

Considering that the bar for a good Mario movie was set so low that just about any animated movie with a hollywood budget would have passed, then Chris Pratt wasn't instrumental to the Mario movie being a success.

Why do I get the feeling you're making it sound as if the Mario movie was the worst animated movie of this year?
