An Amazing 6 Episodes, what a buy, wish ADV would do this someday. When is the last time they put 6 Episodes on a DVD? Sub only?

And not charging you some ridiculous amount for it, like Bandai's been doing lately. I'm definitely going to make myself a (shamefully rare) purchase - I loved Simoun, and despite the fact that it sounds like a couple of the subbing choices may irk me a bit, the very respectable price point can't be ignored to give the series some support.

Well one example that comes to mind is that FUNi did release the first 6 episodes of Solty Rei on the first volume. And another example is that I heard Media Blasters is releasing Strawberry Panic in a similar fashion as Simoun.

*sigh*

I, too, will lament the fact that Simoun would have been an intriguing dub to discuss given that everyone is being voiced by females.

Sounded like it would be worth checking out until I got the part about being sub onry. Too bad, but there are other great shows coming out this winter.

It is still worth checking out. You'll be hard pressed to find a better deal price-wise, and Simoun definitely delivers a very well executed drama in the end.

I'm going to sound like a grinch here, but why did they change the character Aaeru to Aer? Not only is it non-sensical, but it's going to open up a gaping hole in the plot towards the end of the series, as her name has a specific meaning.

Yeah....that part's gonna be trouble if they renamed her Aer...but....what you ganna do, maybe they found a way around it. And I really hope they kepp making sub only dvds. They are cheaper and pack more episodes on one disk. If all companys did this, I would be a really happy camper, as I don't give 2 cents on dubs

I'm sure it's a good buy and it sounds like a good series, but I'll save the money for something I'll actually watch. I don't have anything against subs, but I don't like being forced to watch something. What can I say, my attention drifts, I like freedom.

The creators told MediaBlasters to do so. And it doesn't make a hole either: Aaeru has three syllables, Aer has three letters.

Dude, tell me about it, I only paid $9 (Brand new, Sealed) for it and I was in for a shock, couldn't beleive it, so F-Ing chuffed. Because I don't watch dubs at all, so I ain't paying the extra $10-$15 (Per DVD), hope this is the way to go in the future.

I was pursuaded from several recommendations to check out Simoun, so I bought Simoun Vol. #1 at Ohayocon last weekend. Definitely looking forward to watching it, and I like the $19.95 MSRP price, but hate the 15-week wait between volumes though.

Don't hold your breath on that. Only niche release get that treatment, and a yuri sci fi series certainly qualifies as "niche." In general subbed-only anime sells so poorly in North America that you'll probably never see that approach become the norm.

Yeah, that delay irks me, too; it's longer even than the 12-13 weeks for each volume of Noein. Hope they make up for it by doing another 6-episode volume.

Sorcerer Hunters
26 eps on 4 dvds

The main disappointment here comes from not getting to hear how an American studio might have handled the male roles in the series, as in Japanese they are all still voiced by female seiyuu trying to speak in their huskiest possible tones. Obviously this was done to imply the originally-female origin of all the male characters, but it still sounds very weird.

I'm always shocked when I come across Romi Paku or Mitsuki Saiga playing chicks since a majority of their roles seem to be male. Megumi Ogata also does a fair number of guys. I thought there was the whole tradition of feminine boys voiced by gals in Japan.

And the gender-change happens in yaoi. Little Darling (novel) features a hermaphrodite demon who, if he can keep from having sex in a certain style, can gender assign male when he's 300. I do believe there's a yaoi anime involving gender assignment & it's also in the plot of the Korean Boy Princess.

This series sounds really interesting to me. I've never seen a yuri title that held my interest, but the religious/sci-fi themes sound pretty cool and I like pretty art work. The synopsis at the top of the review was a little confusing with all the big names thrown out, but I assume that once you actually watch the anime, it might be easier to understand...

I just checked the information for Vol. #2 and it has a running time of 125 minutes, so I assume that it will contain the next 5 episodes (Episodes 7-11). It looks like it's going to be a 5-DVD release.
