Is anyone else excited about this? I think the designs are fantastic, and Miyazawa's stories seem to be consistently imaginative.

Well, I am. I just sat through CPM:s DVD edition of "Night on the Galactic Railroad" and was positively enveloped in yet another marvellous story from his pen. This one was appropriately and very delicately directed as well, with gorgeous backgrounds sometimes reminiscing of expressionist landscape painting of the era (Kenji's own lifetime, that is). Kiddie stuff (ref. "3 year" recommendation on box!) it is scarcely, but it's comparable to "Grave of the Fireflies", "Angel's Egg" and "Star of Cottonland" in its dark atmosphere and existentialist content.

I've already got "Spring and Chaos", "Taneyamagahara no Yoru" and "Gauche the Cellist" in my DVD collection, so I'm all game for some more Miyazawa stuff.

Fingers crossed it will be available with an English sub in one form or another anytime soon.

We can only hope it ever gets licensed at all, or we'll just be content with a fansub copy out there in Internetland. (pairing this film with Galactic Railroad would make for a killer DVD set)
