Entire series for less than the price of a DVD...

I'm not really interested in the whole digital purchase thing, but I might check it out.

I hope this means we'll see a DVD collection or singles of some sort soonish. This is a pretty good price for those who'd like it Itunes-style though.

maaan, Anime is only getting more affordable and that makes me happy. They are even offering them English Subtitled for Anime Purists who prefer hearing the Japanese Voices instead. If fan-sub fans still have a problem with paying $1.99 (which i can probably find under my couch right now) for an episode, then they are being bigger penny pinchers than scrooge.

Your average fansub watcher is too ignorant and stubborn to check this out. For several reasons.

1: Wahhhh, professional American companies don't do subtitles as good as college kids who did it as a hobby. ("Whiny Elitist Syndrome")

2: Pfft, pay for anime? The Japanese get to watch it on TV for free, I want it for free. ("Cheap Teenager Syndrome")

3: That shows old! I've already seen it! They should have done this when it was first coming out! ("I Want It NOW!!!!11!!11!!! Disorder")

Typically, the average fansub viewer suffers from at least two of these disorders. It seems to be a more often than not a coupling of either #1 or #3 with #2.

The last thing I want is a player-specific version of a video file... that's why I wont buy anything from Direct2Drive or similar, but I will wholeheartedly support what GONZO is doing on Crunchyroll and BOST - standard DivX/Xvid encoded and H.264 encoded files with no DRM.

Bring on the DVDs.

Funi really isn't playing any games. I guess this is to test the waters for their other series they have yet to release on DVD.

haha i never thought about it like that, but needless to say what you say is true. i actually know someone like that with symptoms #1 and #2. I've been trying forever to get them to change their ways, but they've been watching free anime since 2000 and is relunctant to change their ways. the equation of (anime + buy = More anime in the future) doesnt process in their heads at all. even this article wasnt convincing. any suggestions? anyone?

I saw the first episode subtitled like two years ago, didn't catch my attention all that much, but I still like seeing digital distribution become more widespreed. Even if they do include DRM on the files, I wish they'd expand to more systems than Windows sometime soon.

Argh! Yet another whole series available for legal download that for some arbitrary copyright-related reason is not available in Canada or on Macs! Though I know they have their reasons, it frustrates me every time I hear about something like this. The best we can get up here in the way of legal anime downloads are the lame offerings of Crunchyroll. ><

While by no means attempting to fall under #2, it wouldn't kill them to put at least the first episode up without a charge. My initial take on the headline was that I might put-up with sub-only to see if the show was any good, which swiftly met with death from above upon reading the full article. Not saying that ADV's model is always the best to copy from lock-stock-and-barrel (and I had usually already seen it via VOD or partnered-streaming by the time they stuck it on Universe,) but it was a nice option to demo titles when they offered the first episodes of new series.

not a bad idea bglassbrook. though i think if i remember the panel at AX correctly, i think Funimation is going to be doing something like that for their english dubs on their you tube account.

Just what i like to hear Funi. Now if only you could do it with a title I was actually interested in, we'd have a winner.

Is there any way to convert these videos to work on iTunes/an iPod? I really don't like to use my computer to watch anime, but I wouldn't balk at paying $1.99 an episode to have something to watch at work.
