Well, if the show keeps getting better, I'll consider buying it.

Poor SHG, she must really be getting heat to have been given that nickname.

Madhouse animated Strawberry Panic! ? That's...certainly a different type of show for them. Too bad the show sounds like it takes a minimalist approach.

You say Media Blasters has included the ED and preview in the same chapter? How considerate of them; I'm not even buying the series, and they still take into account how I hate both bad EDs and next episode previews!

I thought this disc improved the series by actually starting a plot. Not great, but I love the Japanese vocal performances, and I kinda actually care for the characters. It is still blown away by Maramite as far as overall enjoyability in my book, but I will continue buying.

I am sucker for cheap (price wise) anime, and of course girl on girl fawning, blushes, and whatnot.

What is the deal with the two month release times for Media Blasters? Is it really that hard to put out sub only anime?

Ah, the series I better knew as "marimite lite" because, well, it is. I recall the latter episodes tried to thicken the plot, so to speak, but ultimately succeeded only in generating some cheap melodrama. I don't know if this DVD covers it yet, but the events during the storm, in the empty house, I actually snickered at them aloud seeing how heavy-handed the plot was on trying to make OMG DRAMA. The best character, as far as I can remember, was miss Carmen from the side cast (you know who I mean after seeing this DVD).

Just seeing Marimite instead is a lot better choice, even if it doesn't go as far in the yuri-service. Where's my 4th season?

(yes I know it is coming)

I couldn't force myself to move one once I reached the ninth episode, but after reading this review I might consider starting it back up again. That is, if Heroes doesn't start taking up a vast majority of my time. So sad too, I only started watching it because my brother was and I didn't feel like leaving the room to do something more productive, like read.

I somehow get the feeling that this reviewer personally prefers all women to be feminine, since he has such a hard time with Amane's character design (oh my god, a woman wearing jeans and dressing like a boy overall, how blasphemous!). I for one think she looks very cool, and it really doesn't hurt to have a change in pace with different-looking women characters once in a while. Even I find it boring after a while to see nothing but girly girls

All in all, Strawberry Panic was never meant to be art, but light, fluffy entertainment, and I believe a direct alternative for anyone who may love Maria Sama ga Miteru but found the yuri aspect unfulfilling. In that regard, Strawberry Panic is not a bad show at all to just sit back, relax and enjoy. Even if nobody else likes this show, I always will

I dont' understand this criticism to Strawberry Panic. It's a romantic anime, What did you expected? The Bridges of Madison County? SP isn't art but at least I can enjoy it, there are so many annoying "romantic comedies" in anime nowadays.

Another point I don't get is this comparisson with Marimite. First at all, there are tons of yuri mangas in all girl schools and Marimite isn't the first one, that's Shiroi Heya no Futari in the 70s and Marimite is inspired by Onnisama, an anime series from the early 90s. BTW, you can't compare Marimite and Strawberry Panic because they are from diferent genres. SP is a yuri anime and Marimite is a shoujo anime. SP is about girls love, Marimite is about friendship between girls, except for 2 episodes from the first season.

Boy, you're not getting my point at all.

First, the jeans comment is NOT a complaint, only an observation remarking on something that is completely abnormal for the medium.

As for the rest, yes, I do prefer girls/women who look feminine, but that's beside the point here. I was a high school teacher for 11 years, and still work with high school-age students on a regular basis, so I'm quite familiar with what girls at Amane's age should look like in jeans, even ones that are trying to act/look like guys. Their hips and rear ends do not look like what Amane's do in the date scenes. That's the body style for the lower half of a boy, not a girl, even a macho-looking/dressing girl.

Sure, you could drop the "this is animation, so it's not required to look real" argument here, but I can point to hundreds of other anime series that don't do this with female characters of this age. Beside, this series has made such a point of being gender-distinctive in the way it draws characters that this seems to be either a major gaffe or intended to make a point.

Theron/Reviewer-Alright, that's cool, I understand better. I didn't mean anything really personal by what I wrote, even if it kinda sounded that way. I kinda meant it all to be a half-jest, but how you express yourself in person and in print are two different things. Amane's appearance just doesn't bother me, that's all. And there are some yuri fans who thinks she's hot too
